Does any anyone carry a spare tire, and if so is it a full size front?

Thanks,
Bob

Yea,

But I'm a diet to loose most of it! :D

I think most of the guys just have a AAA card incase of a flat. You could also aquire a small repair kit

This, and a can of air will get you to a safe place. http://tirerepairkit.com/whichkit.htm

Yea, I've got that type of spare tire as well...I did mean for the car. :) I have seen pictures of a coupe with a spare but didn't pay that much attention, it did look nice but I would also like to have the room. My wife says the coupe is already too small to go get groceries in....

I'm replicating what was in the original. Here is an original.

I made a jig and welded up some steel tube. I then welded some mounting points into the frame. It will have a full front spare. The plan is to unbolt it for storage and putting it in for shows. The final thing I need to make for it is the straps. Anyone have any ideas?

Ron,
AS usual your work and ideas are a "cut above". I am also going to have a full size (front wheel) for a spare and it easily fits. I was going to mount mine flat on the deck, but after seeing yours and thinking about it more, matching the angle of the spare with the slope of the rear of the car would add more class.
Thank you for sharing before I did it my way.

Yes it does lay flat. I should have posted a picture of the tire in the mount. Here it is.

Any specific ideas for a jack, I'm figuring on a scissor type jack. I thought I would wait until I saw what kind of ground clearance I have. I figure it will be pretty low.

No thoughts yet, but the correct scissor jack would be ideal.

Howdy Ron,

Great work! I love looking at your site and handiwork.

I would love to have a center console like yours in my Spyder. If you have a spare send it my way.

Just out of idle curiosity, how many hours a week do you spend on your coupe?

Paul

P.S. There isn't any way in this world that I could possibly put a spare tire in the trunk of my Spyder.

Thanks for the kind words. I average about 12 to 20 hours a week. Lots of things to change, so little time.

I carry a full sized spare as I had a bad experience going to the 2010 FFR openhouse. I got a flat on busy 495 on a friday afternoon ( a major road to Cape Cod ). I drove the coupe about 3 miles to get off the highway in a rest area. I called AAA as I had a spare but no jack. They got there and I found that the spare wheel I purchased didn't fit and the flat tire was too severly damaged to repair with my flat kit. I must say I felt extremely dumb for not having tried the spare on prior to me lugging it around for 7,000 miles. I had to call my son and he brought my trailer down to get me (150 miles). He wasn't too pleased to pull him from work on a Friday afternoon at crunch time. So at the present time I have a new PS Engineering wheel with a 335-17 Michelin Pilot Sport laying flat in the back. Yes, it fits on the front and rear. It is amazing how smart one gets as he gets older. Atleast the story ends well, as I sold the wheel that doesn't fit to Russ Thompson for one of his special projects which made both of us happy.

Didn't the Mustang at one time come with a spare that would accommodate a brake system for a 17 wheel, one of those that had a small inflation can?

A spare for a 2003-04 Cobra or maybe late GT500 ought to work.
