View Full Version : Social distancing body removal

I had a message over the weekend from a builder who had seen me mention that I put bodies on and take them off by myself. He said with this whole social distancing thing going on it was going to be a while before he could get a helper or two to come lend a hand and he was really wanting to get the body back off of his chassis. I told him that if he could wait a day or two I'd be pulling one off and would show him. This morning when I was ready to yank it I set my phone up on a box and hit record. As I said in the video you go through the same motions whether you're flying solo or have help---raise the rear, go forward and then raise the front. Reverse the steps for putting them back on.
Let's see if this works:

Hope that helps!

I don't plan on taking my body off anytime soon but I have to say that was pretty slick.
You are a wealth of knowledge Mr. K. Thanks for sharing it!

This is great Jeff. I rigged up some ropes, eyelets, and buckets of sand and have had body on and off a few times already by myself. I filmed it with a go pro but don’t have access to post yet.. This video will help several here. Thanks for posting.

I have a ATV winch in my shop roof that I take and put on the bodies before paint like that.

Jeff, stop you're going to cause a heart attack, these bodies are more fragile than eggs, you just can't jerk around on them.

Didnt have social distaning in mind when I built ceiling storage for body but knew I would be solo bringing it up and down for fitment during the build. I bought some ladder hoists off Amazon that have large rubber insulated hooks. Used a caribener adapter for the buck but I can lower it solo, remove the caribener and put hooks under wheel wells. Works perfect...

Great video! Thanks for posting....nice to see all the flex these bodies can actually take....
I had a set up similar to nuhale's but with my own pulleys. I now have a system just like Jeff's since I've moved and did away with the body buck.

Nice video and process Jeff. I did something similar and had them on and off by myself lots of times. Was interested to see you hooking them on the wheel well arches. I was looping ropes through the front and rear light openings. Your way works much easier and faster. Nice work.

Jeff-
Very informative video! Really makes the process easy and takes away some of the trepidation some of have about these bodies. Well done Sir; and thanks!

Thanks Jeff for sharing the video!
I'm pulling my body off the rolling chassis and restarting my MKIII build after a nine year hiatus. I had all but forgotten how that was 'sposed to work.

would you do it the same way after painting? is there any chance of chipping or spider cracks when pulling the body in and out after paint? I see people talk about not wanting to remove the body after paint and wondering if this might be why?

Going on with the painted body is pretty much just reversing the procedure. I move things a little slower, add padding to the brace and hooks and have a spreader contraption to keep the body away from the hinges as it goes down.
