View Full Version : Finally time to work on my engine

Maine weather warmed up enough to get in the garage today. My previous engine was red to be aligned with my color scheme. The 347 I got was blue so some painting was needed.

After brushing and blowing the engine off, I used degreaser then soapy water followed by a blow dry. Let it sit for a while to dry fully then got the primer on.

Then finished it off with red. Also covered the water pump and intake this time. I like the Cobra valve covers more so then the ones I had previously so they are staying. I also painted my oil pan a while ago. My headers will be painted the same color.

Next will be the flywheel and clutch, then the front accessories.
Now it doesn’t matter what the weather does at least I’ll be able to install it when time permits.
To stay with the theme of my build I figured out that my distributor is shot too. Way too much play in the shaft. Shipping it off to Mark to see if he can fix it. Par for the course in my world I guess....

Nice weather gave me the opportunity to install the engine yesterday.
I'm pretty happy with the look.
Waiting for new sparkplugs to arrive at the parts store and my distributor to come back. Had to cut off one of the heater hoses so need a new one for that too. Will tidy up the wiring after that get's installed. With a little bit of luck it could be running by next weekend.

It looks like you are cookin with gas now. I have the same MSD coil, the only part that has failed so far. I keep a spare in the car now. I'm still optimistic about examining your beast at the Open House.

I never did find a picture with a MSD coil in it.

But if you're using this one, you're using the wrong one:

You want his one (and you probably won't need a spare):

One of the earliest lessons I learned on these cars (I used to carry a spare too).

Now your testing my memory, that’s your first mistake
It was of a forum vendor here, but it was a two part deal.
The top part is a 360 degree filler neck from Aerospace components at aerospacecomponents.com, 727-347-9915

The Thermostat housing was from confidential consultants. Egroce@mindspring.com

That’s the info I got from the receipts, not my memory clearly!

Hopefully they are still in business as I bought these in 2013.

HTH,

John

Mine doesn’t have the coil so no worries there. The shaft on my distributor had way too much play so it’s out for a rebuild with Mark the Traveling builder.

John and Mike,

The coil is bolted to the firewall right behind John's fuel injection unit. Mine is MSD 8207. It looks like it is still wired in. No doubt High Vibration is the way to go.
