I pulled the headlight switch today and the whole rod came out of the switch. Now I can't get the rod to re-engage in the switch. I thought by just pushing it back in the rod would catch inside but nothing happens. Any suggestions?

Yes. There’s a button on the side of the switch. Press it down and you should be able to get it past the detent

tried that but no success. Wondering if something inside the switch let go.

It can be a bit finicky. Doesn’t need to be depressed 100%.

Try turning the knob as you push it in. The one I received with the kit was so finicky that Tony sent me a new one. The kit comes with a low end switch that I found on Amazon for 30 bucks. You can go with a early Chevy switch if you desire that is much better. Ray

Agree they can be a little finicky. But if you can't get it to work, go with ACDelco D1588. I've found the genuine branded switch is higher quality than the version sold by Factory Five. $22 on Amazon. Doesn't come with the knob or shaft. But you can use the one you have.

Try putting the rod in at a slight angle, that worked for me.

As with all the other excellent recommendations, make sure that the rod is pushing in far enough to engage in the detent, ie that the knob is not bottoming out against the dashboard before the rod engages the detent.

Hope that make sense.

Thanks for the info! Mine is really finicky and I need to replace it.
