As I have said in previous posts I’m contemplating building a Factory Five Daytona Coupe. My general design concept (today anyway) is:
1) this car WILL be a driver not a garage or trailer queen,
2) maybe a track day once in awhile,
3) try to keep it as close visually to what would have been seen in 1964-65 (engine bay, 350-400HP SBF, interior, and exterior,
4) because it will be a driver will probably use a T-5 vs. a T-10 transmission, and more modern wheel size (17”) and modern tires.
Well that’s the background. The question I have is where have people placed the front and rear tow hooks. I would like them to be functional incase of a break-down and need to be winched onto a flat bed. If I track the car I believe they are required.
THANKS

I know track cars need a hook so they can be quickly moved off the track. But don't know if that's the same thing you're asking about or whether those would be useful for a trailer winch or tie down. I doubt it actually. For your winch and trailer questions, I personally don't think under chassis hooks are necessary. Mine was on a trailer several times to/from the paint shop, and then again for the recent Detroit Autorama. We used axle straps around the IRS LCA's in the back and the frame by the radiator support in the front. Same as I do with my Roadster. If you have the right tie downs in your trailer, a lot of guys use wheel nets.
One other comment. Agree you don't want a 4-speed T-10. But if you're doing 350-400 HP, I'd look at either a TKO500/600 or even a 6-speed T56. Which fits in the Coupe just fine. Unless you're doing aftermarket gears, a T-5 is a little light. Used to be pretty common. But not nearly so much any more. TKO600 is by far the most common these days. For good reasons. FWIW.

John George's build thread from a few years ago had some pictures of how they installed what I'd call "track-style" tow eyes on a Gen III Type 65.

Paul, THANKS for taking the time to respond. I have read every word of your Coupe build and value your input and experience. I will need to re-evaluate the transmission choice. BTW congratulations on you Coupe’s completion. She is beautiful. Happy trails and enjoy the ride.
THANKS again

Paul, I'm looking into ideas for a tow hook on my Coupe so that I can winch it into a trailer. I've been using a axle strap around the front frame (radiator mount) until now, but once the radiator goes in, I don't think that will work anymore. Yet... I see you mentioned it above as how you do it. Can you explain how you are doing this with the radiator in and body on? I must be missing something. Thanks

That quote wasn't completely clear. I was only addressing how I tie mine down in the trailer. I've always driven my cars in and out of our trailer. No including the Coupe. So have no experience with using a winch. Agree the body and radiator are low in the front, so not easy to hook up for a winch without pulling against something not desired. I see it done frequently at big shows, like London, so it can be done. Maybe someone else will weigh in. Sorry.
