New Zealand is about to go into complete lock down for the next 4 weeks minimum, and we are not allowed to leave the house except for food and medical support. So I will have to finally get the Roadster finished......unless I have forgotten to buy something. Then I will have to just sit and look at it because I wont be able to get it certified and licensed.

Very nice! Love the colour combo and you have stacks. She is going to be a beauty once you have her all together.

Yes! Keep building! The enforced isolation already gave me time to complete all the building I needed to register my car. I’ve attached a photo of my first drive in the neighborhood. The car performed flawlessly! Everything is ready for licensing but I just learned that the WA Department of Motor Vehicles has indefinitely closed many departments and services including some required to get a VIN. Coronavirus! I guess I’ll be driving up and down the driveway for the duration and working on a few things I had planed on doing well after it was street legal.

The car is looking great. NZ is taking strong measures, which will turn out to be a good thing in the long run. My nieces and nephews in ChCh aren't so thrilled though. The older ones are on board. My Brother in law has 5 kids running around the house...Yikes!
Extra garage time never hurts.

My problem now is that we are restricted to our house except for groceries and medical assistance, and my Roadster is at a different address........so technically I cant go and work on it for the whole 4 weeks, so maybe I do have an excuse? The Police and Army are out enforcing the lock down so I will have to come up with a pretty good reason to need to work on the car.........maybe argue it is my means of remaining sane and healthy?

Just say that you needed to retrieve the beer from your car's trunk.

Igordon, I love the color of your car, would you be willing to give me the name of it? I am planning on painting mine blue too.

Ha funny I used the lockdown period to re-ignite my interest in getting a Cobra. I have followed yours and another Kiwis threads with the issues you have found over the years. I also notice though that FFR does an RHC now for the Cobra so that might be the way to go!
For LVTA what have you found so far that you have had to change from the original Kit? I did see your note on the high brake light and the extra tube for the seatbelts. Anything else?

I may be the enigma on my build. My wife's medical office closed last week because one nurse with a history of severe asthma had some trouble breathing. The nurse is fine and no infections, but they closed for a week out of abundant caution. MEANWHILE, my "Honey Do" list grew considerably, and she's been here the entire time to police my progress. LOL

The key is to buy the NZ Hotrod manual which has all of the rules for building and modifying cars in New Zealand.
There haven't been too many things, but ones that come to mind.....a safety hoop for the driveshaft, throw away the FFR steering shaft and replace as we are not allowed welded ends on the shaft, steering must be modified so there is 'ZERO' bump steer (there is no tolerance allowed on this - one of the two pet rules), replace most of the bolts in the front suspension and replace with longer ones as there 'MUST' be a minimum of 2 threads past the nylok nut (the other pet rule), replace the 3/4" bar behind the seats that the seat belts run over with 32mm dia. roll cage tube, replace the door catches with double action burst proof bear claw latches, reinforce below the floor for mounting seats or use the adjustable seat tracks, must have wipers and windscreen washer, must have 3 rear view mirrors if using the 5 point harness, must also have head rests on the seats if using 5 point harness, require a third brake light. Most are good sensible things so not too onerous.
Nearly done............but is fighting me to the end.......just a days work left to finish......for the last 2 weekends..........maybe it will never end?

I like the shorter license plates (tags) in Australia & New Zealand. I imagine you are issued two. After inspection, etc., how strict are they on not having one in the front? What's the fine?

It is compulsory in New Zealand to display both front and rear - they must be clearly visible for 30metres (100ft) from directly in front or behind the car.................most Cobra and many hot rod owners don't display the front plate. If you are being sensible and not being a dick the police largely turn a blind eye, however some can't let it go and will issue an infringement notice, and I think if you are stopped for something else such as speeding, then you will get a notice for the lack of a plate. Fine is $200. I am undecided what to do at this stage?? I don't like the look of the front plate and I am running a 427W so don't really want to compromise the cooling...........hang it on the turn signal light?? Not sure? Probably will depend on how often I get a notice.....
A standard plate here is 5" high, so I will be getting the slimline at 4" so it fits under the trunk handle

Very pretty car, would love to see the that 8 stack! I also like the contrast with your tool shed, a diamond in the rough.

The easiest way is to mount your front plate on a hinge, so while driving down the road, it swings back allowing plenty of cooling, and when stopped, it hangs down for the police to read.
I always had a spring on there, so if I did get asked about it, I could hook up the spring, and it was to protect the plate if I bumped into something. ;)

HotYacht, I love that shade of blue. A little more gray that what I've mostly seen around here. Do you mind sharing what color this is?

Hi Rob, the colour is AC Cars 1965 Guardsman Blue, and the stripes are Ford 1965 Wimbledon White. Yes I love the grey hue - the colour changes quite a lot depending on the light so I can see that back in 1965 it must have been seen as a pretty hi-tech finish. The AC colour has a finer metal flake than the Ford Guardsman Blue as used on the Mustangs

Yep the garage is in a house that is currently unoccupied and waiting for the car to be finished so that I can do a resto job on it.......95 years old......plenty to do on it!
See the 8 stack.......126416 126417

Yes our local club president has that on his Superformance...........turn the fan on and it sucks the plate out of view! The only issue with that is that I will only see the car when it is parked so I still see the number plate......
