OK. The other day the temps went up and I got to shoot 2 coats of featherfill. Pinhole city! Well, not quite that bad but they were there. So I filled and sanded, filled and sanded. and now everything is straight and smooth (except for a minor area under the hood).
So, as I see them and probably not too clearly, are the next steps to engage. I am planning on using a 2-stage urethane system.
1. Sand the rest of the body down to 220 or 320? and wipe clean
2. Shoot sealer/primer
3. Sand?
4. Shoot stripe color then mask and go to base (3-4 coats) and clear (2-3 coats)
5. Sand then buff
Should I shoot another coat of featherfill prior to the sealer/primer? and how many coats for sealer/primer?

Slick Sand/Featherfill blocked to 150 to provide some tooth for the 2K primer surfacer to grab hold of. Three rounds of primer surfacer taken out to 320 dry and then 600 wet. One good coat of sealer in the appropriate shade for your base color. Nib it as necessary with 1000 immediately followed by your bases. Be very mindful of your recoat windows so you don't lose your chemical bonds---I use all PPG products; sealer has to be covered by base within 72 hours (but I like to keep it down to just a few) and base needs to be under clear within 24.
Good luck,
Jeff

Thanks Jeff. If the base isn't laid down within 72 hours, process would be, I assume, sand to 600 then re-spray?
Just asking in case something happens and I don't get within the 72 hour window. Clear over base would not be a problem.

Yes. But if you can't cover it right away and will have to scuff and reshoot there really isn't any point in putting it on in the first place. Spray it, clean up while it dries for about 30 minutes, nib and start shooting color.

Thanks Jeff.
I got lots of time before I start as the temps are to dip again this coming week. It will probably be mid-April before it will be warm enough.
In the meantime I have to set up a paint booth outside of my garage. When I painted my 3.1 in 2013, I had minimal room on sides to spray but it worked very well. Since then I changed out my shelving on one side from 8" shelves to 18" and that 10" is enough to make it almost impossible. So I intend to set up a positive booth from 2x4's and plastic, filters and fans in front of the garage and will be able to get 2 feet more room than I did in 2013. I'll have to put a tarp over the top so that the sun doesn't unnecessarily bake me and the paint too soon.
I'll need to set up the supplied breathing air as well. In 2013 I used a portable unit from my ex-son-in-law's firm but now that is an 'ex'.
Anyone set up their own breathing system? I still have the hood and vents.

I hope you don't mind me asking a question in your thread but it is on topic. Can you just wash the car down with soap and water after sanding rage gold before slick sand? Do i need to use anything else?
Thanks Craig

Not sure on that, Craig. I would suggest searching the forum.

Thanks to a note I saw in one of the forums, I have hooked up my old CPAP unit for supplied air and got an extra 30 feet of proper tubing to deliver the air to my hood. I have tried it out and it works amazingly well. The air is also cool which will help when wearing that hot-box.
