I'm looking for an empty chassis picture of the transmission tunnel - mostly the front. Looking for where the 3/4" tubes come up and attach to the existing frame member. I wanted to weld in some frame reinforcements to my Mark I chassis.
The rear of the transmission tunnel I have figured out - welding to the existing 3/4" tubes that come down from the rear frame member. I'm guessing the front ones come off the 2 inch frame member that the firewall attaches to and go down to attach to the 4" frame tubes.
I have been hunting through the build threads and have not found one yet.

I bet this will give you some insight Ralph.

These photos are of a Mk4 but as far as the construction of the trans tunnel is concerned there is no significant difference from a Mk3. The Mk2 is different at the rear because the transmission mount is not removable but for your retrofit purposes that would be a moot point.
Good luck!

Thanks Jeff, I've been looking for a complete chassis picture for a while, to complete my own home grown "owners manual".
Stay well my friend . . .

Ralph,
Not a bare chassis, but this is how I did mine a few years ago when I upgraded my MKI/II. http://www.weendoggy.com (http://www.weendoggy.com/body.htm#backbone) A little work involved, but if you have all the aluminum off it'll be a snap. Be sure to fit with your aluminum so you know it fits.

I knew Jeff would be one of the ones with an answer! :) Picture 9 was the one I needed! Thanks Jeff

Just read your site and the images. I like the idea of removing the driver aluminum to make it easier to install the new braces. I was considering removing the engine and tranny. I'm also using 3/4" tubing and had kept the aluminum sides of the tranny tunnel in place to use as a guide to place the longer 3/4" tube going back to the rear braces! Thanks for you post. I think I have a complete plan now. Just waiting for the tubing to arrive and my chop saw. Always hunting for an excuse to buy a new tool! :D
