Hi All,

Looking for updates on FastFreddies windshield production. I would like to get on the pre-order list but I am not getting replies from contact or email inquires. Is he still around?

I have read most of the past posts on windshield alternatives such as lexan vs acrylic vs polycarbonate and it seems everyone has their preference and reasons. I would prefer something cut and preformed to fit the car.

If I cannot get one from Freddie, what are the latest thoughts on the best product to use and where to get it? Those of you using one of these materials, how are they holding up over time?

Thanks for your help,
Brien

I cracked my glass about as quickly as I got it back from paint, so I switched to Lexan - Tuffak AR. You trace your glass shape onto the Lexan, cut it with a jigsaw and put it in the frame. Done! It’s something like 17 pounds lighter than glass, enormously stronger, and it’s difficult to tell if it’s glass or not without pushing on it. The reason I decided on it over anything else was race cars have it. And at $200 for a 2’ x 4’ sheet ($400 for 3/16” by 4x8 sheet of Makrolon AR-2, aka Tuffak) it saved a lot of money. It may, however, not pass an initial state inspection. No issues with scratches in 1400 miles either.

I detailed my installation here:

Thanks!

I have gotten a reply from Freddie who say's that the windshields are in production at this time and should be available soon.

But just in case, where did you purchase your lexan from?

I got mine from a local plastics dealer in Denver. I drove down there and picked it it up in my pickup.

I also replaced with lexan MR10. Here in northern Canada, I had trouble finding 3/16". All I could find was 1/8" or 1/4". I bought a piece of 1/4" for about $220 cdn. Installation was very tight in the frame, but seems fine now. Hopefully it works ok, and I'm expecting it will. Put many thousands of miles on motorcycles with lexan windshields...
