View Full Version : In-tank return line extension??

I have a Holley Sniper EFI with an in-tank pump. I came across a video on YouTube with the same setup, and the guy said there could be a problem if you don't extend the return line in the tank. The issue is that if you install the pump/send/return assembly as instructed, the short in-tank return tube will spray the return fuel from the top of the tank, above the fuel level, causing foaming in the tank which could lead to cavitation and engine hesitation/problems.

His solution is to add a section of rubber hose to the return tube that reaches the bottom of the tank so the return fuel exits, submerged in the fuel.

Has anyone done this, heard of this issue, or had any engine problems as a result of foaming?

Thanks,
Frank

I'm set-up that way. Here are the instructions and parts list that came with my Holley Sniper EFI if you end up going that route.

Thanks for replying!
I read the same instructions, and followed the instructions for the in-tank pump bracket...I didn't see anything about extending the return line to the bottom of the tank but it makes sense. I am going to go ahead and add that extension.

Thanks!

You’re on the right path. I had not done that originally in my LSx swapped Fox Mustang and had bad fuel foaming issues, particularly when it was warm out. I was running a Holley HP injection system in that vehicle.

Extended my in tank return, problem solved.

I have a HyperFuel in-tank in my 70 Bronco. It has the return line plumbed to the bottom. Proabably for the reasons stated above.

Thanks! I added a section of rubber fuel line. Later, I found a cheap corrugated plastic straw-looking tube...I guess that’s the return line extension.

Mine was a short piece of fuel line.
