I just completed installation of power steering to my Mk 1.5, 302 powered car. I used a new BBB/Vision 3.0 turn OE rack from RockAuto, a Cardone reman 1991 Ford pump, a CFR bracket and Breeze hoses and fittings. I attempted to add Breeze rack extenders but they interfered with rack travel so I took them off. I used the two piece ford style rack mount bushings that came with the new rack. I have not yet realigned from my manual rack caster setting of 3.0°. I did not do the pump spring modification to reduce power. Spindles and tie rod ends are 1991 Mustang; upper and lower control arms are 2001 vintage FFR.
Everything is fine when the car is cold. Steering is smooth and easy from lock to lock. When warmed up, however, steering is smooth and easy until about the last quarter wheel turn of a hard left turn. At that point I get steering wheel shudder, pump groan and whole car vibration as I continue to turn the steering wheel to left lock. It’s ok with a full right turn. The fluid is full with type F atf and I have no leaks. Normal driving of the car is great - this is an issue only when maneuvering the car at low speeds like when parking.
Any diagnosis thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
