View Full Version : IRS rear brakes
So I had a bearing failure due to loose axle nuts on my IRS. Original setup was stock T-bird. When the bearing failed, it took the hub with it, so I put in a Mustang IRS hub. Now the hub-centric t-bird brake disk does not fit over the hub. Will a stock Mustang IRS rear disk work? Should I just have the hub pilot on the disk machined to the correct diameter? If so, does anyone have the dimensional specs for that pilot diameter?
Thanks,
Tim

No, the Mustang disc won't work, unless you switch to Mustang calipers.
There's also a reason why the Mustang hub won't work, But I can't think of why at the moment. I think it was the spline count, but I'm not sure.

Tim,
The Mustang OD for the Hub center is 2.780", the T-Bird is 2.490". It looks like there is enough meat on the Mustang hub to turn it down, so you should be OK. As to the splines, the Hub splines are the same,
it's the splines at the Pumpkin that are different on some years, there were two years where the Mustang and T-Bid were the same, and then it changed.
