Ready to pull the trigger but I have one little headache....

My 69 Windsor Block is at my machinist getting the once over but he is backed up a week or 2(I need a pre '74 block for the emissions exemption here in MA so i can't do a crate motor easily) The current sale ends soon and I want to get in on it to start my build sooner rather than later. My dilemma is that if i order now and configure the kit for 69 351w w/AOD and that does not end up being my final driveline (due to say, a bad block etc....), am i stuck with that config? Are the motor mounts, tranny mount welded in differently for different configs or is only for driveshaft selection?

Or should I wait til my machinist gets back to me and hope off for a Spring/Open House Sale?

Thanks,

Sean

The FFR design is modular and will accept various power-trains by using brackets specifically designed for what you want to run (of course this is limited to popular combinations). So order away and don't worry. Worst that can happen is you order some additional brackets. Or, if you're capable of fabricating your own stuff, you can run a wide variety of combinations.

Naz is right. The mounts are bolt in and can easily be swapped. These changes can even be made on the day of pickup.

I don't disagree with the advice but, in addition to the mounts, changing the engine/tranny will also mean driveshaft differences and exhaust J pipe (exhaust) differences.

My suggestion is that you take your time and figure out what you want to do about the drivetrain, and then order the kit later. There always seems to be a sale going on - they just vary in the details. It mostly depends on what accessories you want. For example, some sales are "half off on hard tops, fenders and running boards", sometimes it's "buy X and get Y for free", etc. In my case, I planned out the entire car configuration and then pounced on the sale that worked out best for me. Also, figure out your "deletes" before ordering, if you're going to do anything outside the standard FFR offering. Keith HR #894
