Update from Dave Smith, 03-16-2020

We spoke to Chris at the City of Huntington Beach, and we have tentatively rescheduled the event for September 12th, 2020. The original date of April 25th is not going to be possible due to the crowd limitations and virus concerns. Registrations can simply switch over to the new date or we can refund your money. I really hope that September works out. We have trophies, shirts, and a tremendous party planned, just now delayed.

Update from Dave Smith, 03-13-2020

Guys,

Obviously this is a big question. Many events are cancelling or postponing around the country for March and much of April. This week I was able to get a larger display at SEMA (this fall!) as some companies have already backed out. I'm a contrarian and always see times like these as both challenging AND an opportunity. Regarding HB event, at worst I would postpone the event as it is dear to me and important for many reasons. We will have HB this year! We have been in constant communication with Chris at the town of HB and we still have some time to go (six weeks from tomorrow) before the event. Here a Factory Five we are open and following contact precautions for visits, cleaning our door handles and contact surfaces 4x a day and limiting tours to 6 or less people. We've got a ton of cars to build and can't really weld from home, so staying healthy matters huge as a personal responsibility and also a business reality. My best friend is a senior pulmonologist at RI Hospital and I've got good council on this whole outbreak. We are going day by day and will adjust plans accordingly. If I had to guess I would say the event will most likely be postponed.. but when, I don't know, and all I can tell you guys right now is that I will let you know when I know. I will not do this last minute. Also, while most of OUR event costs (FFR) are not refundable, anyone who cancels would obviously get a full refund. This is about celebrating and not about making money. Talk soon! Dave Smith

I'm signed up, and hotel is booked as well! Bought my Mk 3.1 in 2008, finished it in 2010, and ten years and 21,000 miles later we're goin' to the show!

The Vegas Boys will be there, bringing two, maybe three more that are "newbies" to the show with us. Trying to organize the caravan option from Vegas now . . .

So how does one score a shirt and sign up for the reception if I won't have my car there?

T Shirts are usually sold on site at the show. Registration is for participants (cars), public attendance to the show is free.

Yes, exactly why I asked the question. I believe there should be a provision for attendance as part of the FFR family, not just blend in with the general public. As such, I was hoping there'd be a way to attend the reception, etc....

FF33rod,

if you have any questions, please contact Sally Bean at Factory Five by sending an e-mail to sally@factoryfive.com. Sally is an absolute dream to work with and I'm pretty sure she can help you out with reception tickets without [actually] participating in the daytime show.

And like Frank said, unless you are planning to attend the show in some bright road-cone colored shirt or other getup, you are going to blend in with the crowd . . .

Sorry Rod, Guess I should have read better.

So like Doc, I'm going to say call/email Sally or call the Shorebreak and find out how to register for the Cocktail Reception. This is something new and since I took for granted that Maddog just copied and pasted the same announcement from years past I completely missed it. There is usually a BBQ the night preceding the show but I haven't seen an announcement for that. We'll have to see.

This will be my third time attending HB ... but the first time that I will actually bring my car to the show. Elvis and I are looking forward to the show!

I am registered for both the show and reception! Staying at the Kimpton. Does anybody know if Dave will be hosting a BBQ and offering trailer parking again this year?

The cocktail reception is part of the HB signup sheet:

BBQ? Sounds like a good idea! Let me look into it!

I'm signed up and looking forward to it, but are the organizers looking at the possibility of postponing or cancelling the event? Everyone's freaking out about the coronavirus and even though it's in April, there might be a problem. As I'm typing this, the Long Beach Grand Prix organizers are looking at the same question, less than a day after they announced the races were still on.

I get that industry conferences and large trade shows are cancelling out of an abundance of caution but a relatively small event such as this? I would think that if participants are seriously considering staying home it doesn't make sense to move forward but at this point I certainly still plan on flying down....

I would be surprised if it is not cancelled. A lot going down right now and until things are more controlled expect everything to be cancelled. I am in Vegas now and a number of events just got cancelled.

Thanks Dave! Excellent post and info as usual. Appreciate all you guys do to make our dreams come true. Someday I hope to attend HB and considering I have a number of clients there, I need to align my business calendar with the lack of a social one and make it work.

I've never been, but now this even is on my bucket list.

Yes, there will be plenty of beautiful cars, but the Factory Five Family is why I want to attend.
