Sorry if this is a repost but I did a quick search and couldn't find anyone talking about it (might say more about my searching abilities).
I wondered what everyone thought of the new Ford 7.3L engine?
https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/car-technology/a30753008/fords-73-liter-v-8-can-make-600-naturally-aspirated-horsepower-with-basic-mods/
Apparently, it's roughly the size of the 351w (i.e. much smaller than a coyote), some people have already tuned it to over 600 hp NA with basic mods* and (perhaps most surprising??) it's a pushrod engine.
It seems like this would be an option for roadster builders who wanted something a bit more modern but still wanted a pushrod engine and/or wanted a bit more room than is offered by the coyote. People have already put this thing in a fox body so I expect there's a way to get it to fit in the roadster. I don't know when/if it'll be a crate engine, but it seems like they have to make this a crate engine, right?
Thoughts?
*In the linked article is says the "basic mods" are "some intake and exhaust porting, a custom intake manifold, and a high-lift cam, the big-inch motor cranks out nearly 600 naturally-aspirated horsepower."

There is a Youtube series on the engine that is interesting.

part 2 compares to 351

Looks like a great idea to me. I am constantly lamenting all the new turbo 4s and the auto trans. I know why they do it, I know they actually have good performance but, for this old goat, I have no interest.

600hp is that hard really when you don't have to worry about fuel economy. My 6.0L or 363ci has 600hp. It is most likely a lot lighter than the 7.3L ford motor.

How Cool Would It Be If Ford Stuffed That V8 Into A Green Mustang As A Limited Production Bullet Model?
I think it is great that Ford is once again building a push rod V8; however, performance parts will likely be few and far between...The only thing that concerns me is that Crazy Variable Vane Oil Pump...Not sure that sucker will last, but I'm not a mechanical engineer...
On another note, I don't think it will unseat the LS platform, specifically the LS-3, any time soon when it comes to performance crate engines, but only time will tell.

It's a truck motor, heavy and designed for torque. It'll be costly to rebuild to a high HP car engine, and why, the the Coyote already exists!

This new 7.3L gas engine will generate some aftermarket support, I’m sure, but it will never equal or supersede the Coyote. Two very different architectures and use cases.
Hasn’t stopped me from daydreaming of getting one with a de-stroked crank down to 7.0L (427ci) and beefing up the valvetrain to create a high revving horsepower beast!

It's a good question. I think the idea is that the same component choices that make a good truck motor also make a very durable platform to build out a high powered engine.

Watching the video in the link, they say to get the engine to fit in the fox body required a different oil pan and to either move or remove the oil cooler.
I suspect that aftermarket oil pans for the thing will become ubiquitous if it really does catch on as a tuner engine.

Backdraft and Superformance are doing the same. A Megazilla version is coming. I may just have to pick up one. Very cool!

I have done a godzilla in a 63 Galaxie. It's actually a very cool engine. It is very tall, weight in about the same as an iron block Windsor. Currently the best electronics is by OBR. The oil pan is a real issue for a roadster or coupe because the factory pan is super deep. There are several intakes available that don't have the elephant trunk on the front and even a stack system available. Currently most all of the aftermarket parts that are available are quite pricey and scarce.

There is an answer to the stated questions about the pan, but no answer yet as to the question of whether someone will pay for it.

Hey Gordon. What's the difference between running the OBR electronics on the Godzilla versus something like the Holley Terminator X-Max ECU? Looks like Indy Products has a really solid billet solution, if you don't mind paying about $7K. :)

OBR was specifically designed for the Godzilla and really is plug and play. There are some wet sump low profile pans available for at little at $1000.

So it will fit into a Cobra without modifications to the stock oil delivery system?

There are some mods but $3500 worth isn't necessary. You will need to change the intake and make a custom exhaust system, custom engine mounts and unknown other things until it's tried.

Need the Indy Power products setup with Cobra pan, it fits well then. The 417 pan hangs down 2" too much.

I built some of the parts on that engine...
