I have the FFR supplied power steering rack. The manual states on page 54 (of the PDF version at least) that the "inner Tie Rod Extensions are not for the optional FFR power steering rack". However, my parts list (and inventory) shows that these extensions were included with my kit. So were these supplied by accident because I do not need them or are they supplied because I do need them and the manual is out of date?

On the same page it says "If using the power rack and you have not already done this in the donor prep stage, cut 1.75” off the end of the inner tie rod." Am I to assume this is NOT required for the FFR supplied power rack since it's not from a donor?

Finally, I noticed that the steering rack washers included for this are not grade 8 (at least I don't think they are due to the color difference), but the nuts and bolts are. Should I upgrade the washer? I've heard to never mix grades of hardware and that these may loosen up over time due to wear on the washer. Thoughts here?

Thanks!

The way I understand it is that if your kit was supplied with a rack FROM Factory Five, then they have already installed the parts before shipping the rack with your kit. Not sure why they do this subassembly step in house, maybe a safety thing so it does not get overlooked by the builder, but that seems like a drop in the bucket considering we’re building the rest of an entire car around it.

I wouldn’t cut the tie rods down unless needed. My Coupe-R rack length is fine with no cutting required. Although I am switching from the regular included tie rod ends to FFRs own bump-steer kit. Dulled my 5/8” bit trying to drill out the steering arms, so I ordered a replacement bit and will finish soon.

The extenders go out with every kit whether the PS rack is purchased from FFR or not however they only are used with a Mustang donor style rack. Like a variety of other miscellaneous items (such as hood pins, fan shroud brackets, switch mounts, etc. with the roadsters) it's a simplicity of packaging thing.
