Sold for a good price at $44k considering mileage. Nice 392 as well. What is interesting is the seller is in Florida and buyer in Canada. Transport Canada did not used to allow importing fully built kits but that was 6 years ago when I lived there. I thought this law was still in place and if it is, the buyer is going to get a surprise.

I believe there is an age restriction. I can’t recall what it is specifically but if it is 10 years then a MKIII would be allowable. I’ll have to look it up but that’s what comes to mind because I remember that at some point my MKIII would be eligible...
:)
EDIT: A quick google search indicates a 15 year old car is eligible to be imported as “Age exempt”.

I believe it's 15 years old or greater, it could come in to Canada. RIV.ca (registrar of imported vehicles, dept of Transport Canada) may have some info for a Canadian buyer on how to bring it in. Best to check before you buy.
Note: If you still have questions, please contact a Motor Vehicle Regulations Enforcement Officer:
by letter at Transport Canada, ASFAB/A, Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0N5 or
by Fax at 613-998-8541.
I'm down here in FL for the season. lots of FFRs for sale. One in lady lake with a monster engine was for sale. Local guys in the car club I meet with thought it is too much power. ;-) Still available last I knew he wanted 55k for it.
Any Canuck needs a Florida bird-dog to check out FFRs for sale near me (central FL, Ocala) PM me.

David has it correct. 15 years old is the magic number. If you are bringing one in to your province, you will need to bring it to provincial standard. In Ontario it means fan forced defroster, motorized wipers, middle brake light, seat belts, daytime running lights etc... No emissions test required but vehicle must not be smoking from exhaust after 5 mins warm-up. (I've told some inspectors are fussy about db level of exhaust, so baffle it for that) I have older version of that doc for Ontario, but you can find the latest version online. MK3.0 should be okay based on the original state license as completed, inspected, dated 15 years or more.
RIV.ca has a procedure for border crossing as well as the US border services. I've done 4 cars and an RV so far. Bill of sale and ownership faxed to US side exit point office bridge to Canada 72 hours before crossing. Some states like Arizona mail you a real ownership 10 days later so you may have to store it on the US side until then.... Surprised me once. Pay the RIV fee on the CDN side and any GST. Then 30 days for inspection (CDN tire can do it, included with RIV fee) then pay PST at licence office when you go for your plates.
Looks like RIV fee is now $310 cdn plus HST at border, unless you are in a province that still does their own sales tax, then it's just GST initially, pst later.

From the ad:
...now offered by the selling dealer with a build specification sheet, a convertible soft top, and a clean Florida title listing it as a 2006 Replica convertible.
2006 is less than 15 years. The purchaser might hit a roadblock.

I thought that sold for strong money, plus 5% buyers fee.

I'm was the other final bidder on the car who bailed out at $43750. The reason I was willing to go that high was because I live in Massachusetts and this was originally a MA car that's emissions exempt as it was registered prior to the 2012 regulation change. Those that live in or are familiar with the rules here know how difficult it can be to get a kit car registered.
For what it's worth I hope the high bidder doesn't have any issues importing it and is able to enjoy the car.
And yes, I'm still looking, so if anybody has any leads on roadsters currently or previously registered in MA feel free to send them my way. ;)

It was a well built mkIII and nothing wrong with the price. Building these cars take a lot more money than many realize and a quality built roadster with new parts, a few mods and a nice paint job (done by someone else) will run you at least $40k and more closer to $45-50k+ and that is zero dollars for one’s own hours.
I’m “in the market” again as I miss my MKIV badly and should never have sold but it is what it is. I’ll look and decide whether I build or buy. I did see a beauty of a Backdraft that has a great paint scheme and a 427 beauty but price is high. I’ll buy a nice FF before spending more on BDR although they are nice too. And then then there is the ERA’s which one can also lust after.

Registered my 289 two years ago and the process was easier than I had anticipated. Keep your paperwork in order and follow the process. I found the people involved to be very helpful...

I believe that was Mad dogs fathers car. Very nice.
I have not found registering a FFR in MA all that difficult.
Worst part is the crusher car.

Thanks Chris. I did e-mail Paul Davis at MassDEP (got his contact info from the forum--may have been one of your posts) to confirm the emissions exemption status of that car prior to bidding and he was helpful. I think it's more just fear of the unknown that makes the prospect of trying to register a car I spent years and $$$ building somewhat unappealing. That said, your 289 car is gorgeous and makes me want to build one anyway. Worst case if it couldn't be registered I'd still have a very nice piece of garage art. :)

I hear you. Thought about it over and over for the two years of the build. Turned out to be a non-event. I went the pre 71 date code engine block so I wouldn't need to worry about getting a crusher.
Thanks for the compliment on the car, really couldn't have done it without a lot of help!

i have a non-donor MKIV originally registered in MA. Now registered and titled in NY. I have a copy of the original MA title. I was planning on selling it this summer to free up a garage bay for my next bucket list vehicle. i'll PM you the details.
