View Full Version : Hard top base - how are you finishing it?

So there's been some discussion in various places about the base of the hard top and how to finish it. The "base" being the part that rests on the body.
I plan on having the hard top removable. Looking at the picture below, the profile that I have roughly drawn on the left represents the bottom part of the rear of the hard top where it rests on the body. The profile on the left is the way the hard top came BUT this lip that the arrow is pointing at is chipped, has voids and would be real PIA the finish properly. So, I'm thinking of sanding it off and finishing it as per the profile on the right. Thoughts? what did you do? The same discussion can be had about the front part of the hard top....

You can do that if you want. The bottom is basically covered by the d-shaped seal. Make the inside and outside sides presentable and you will be fine.

If I interpret your sketch correctly, I sanded down that lip. I'm currently working on the hardtop body work, albeit VERY slowly since I only have a couple hours each week which I can dedicate to it.
