I'm in the process of installing a new TKO600 to replace my old TKO. When I original installed the TKO the drive shaft would contact the frame. I was told to add a few washers to the bottom of the transmission to raise the drive shaft and that worked. I happened to have found an aluminum block transmission spacer that would take the place of the metal washers although it is 3/8th of an inch thicker than the washers. If I use it with the new transmission will it change the pinion angle and is there anything I else I should be worried about?

BigBlocker deserves full credit for this information as he helped me tremendously. Check out my post about this topic. You can download the Tremec app for free to help you with your drive line angles.

Forte sells a 3 spacer kit to assist you in getting the perfect drive line angle. At the rear U-joint, you should have a 2 degree angle that makes a very shallow "V" shape rather than an "A" shape. BigBlocker had to use visuals in order to penetrate my thick skull to make me understand this.

The pinion angle needs to be set relative to the transmission, so yes, a thicker spacer will require an adjustment. You should check the pinion angle with a new transmission anyway, even if it is the same type.

I would plan on using the same thickness that you already have with your washers to start with. Just get a piece of aluminum or steel that is the correct thickness and drill two holes in it. If you really want the fancy spacer, just check clearances, and adjust the pinion angle.

Use the correct fluid, real deal GM Synchromesh. Not a "compatible" fluid.

If you track the car, I highly recommend the Liberty's Gears upgrade. Carbon fiber lined synchros for faster shifts, double roll pins for strength, upgraded shifter rails and springs for an anti-money shift improvement.

TKOs have a 50% chance of leaking. If it were me, I would do a a teardown and seal it properly. Mine leaked from day one, until I did a rebuild. Likely needed because it leaked in the first place.

Thanks all for the info. I purchased it from Hanlon Motorsports so I hope it doesn't leak. He to use also pressed upon me the importance of using the correct transmission fluid.

you should have a 2 degree angle that makes a very shallow "V" shape rather than an "A" shape.

I know that everyone's brain works differently. You don't want a V or an A from the way my brain works. You want parallel lines when viewed from the side. Some guys, mainly drag racers, do the 2 degrees.

#1 is bad for your U-joints.

#2 is what you want.

#3 This is a V to me - bad

#4 This is an A to me - really bad,

I downloaded the app. Looking forwarded to trying it out this weekend.

OK, the TKO, 3550, 500, 600, what ever it is all share the same case. Install as before it will be fine, if it was fine from a DS angle before. Do not get hung up on minutia. It is important but likely not applicable in this case.
