I thought I'd post a pic of a test i did with clear powder coat in case anyone is interested. Used super gloss, gloss, semi gloss and satin clear from Eastwood on both natural and brushed aluminium. I went with the brushed finish with satin clear for the engine bay panels, really happy with the look. One practical note for those who powder coat themselves; when I did the first panel i cleaned the panel with acetone after brushing. This produced some blotches after the acetone that were impossible to remove without destroying the brushed finish. Subsequent panels were cleaned first, then brushed. I used gloves to avoid contamination and just blew the dust off with air, much better result.

Hot soap water, then a rinse with clear water is the best thing to finish clean aluminum. If you use acetone, you'll have issues.

Interesting. Why is acetone a problem? Always willing to learn something new. Going with the larger panels tomorrow to a local guy. He uses methylated spirit to clean.

I love to Powder coat!! I have had good results cleaning with Duplicolor grease and wax remover then applying powder coat. I have also gotten away from the Eastwood Powders and have been using powders from Prismatic Powders.com and The Powder Coat Store.

It will leave a residue, if you preheat the panels, then you shouldn't have an issue. But why, when soap and water works perfect.

I see, wasn't aware of that. Just had my larger panels coated today by a professional, wouldn't fit in my oven. They look great, can't wait to see them on the car.
