I’ve seen several post about modifying the outer sheet metal on the drivers foot box for extra foot room. On a MkIV is there enough room to make this modification without causing issues for correct body position ?

The most recent version of the Mk4 DS out footbox (last year or two) has a movable panel that maximizes the available space. Really nothing else to do there. Depending on your engine, you may/may not have a little space available to modify on the inner panel. But even that is close to maximum in most cases. Not a lot to be gained there. One of your bigger opportunities is how you configure the pedals. Assuming a Wilwood pedal box. The pedals have some front to back adjustment. And you can vary the placement of the brake and clutch pedals. Some even narrow the pedals. Finally, depending on your shoe size, don't expect to be driving with your Timberland boots. I purposely pick shoes that are as narrow as possible. Some use actual driving shoes. It all adds up.

EDIT: Should have added mine are 11E use Puma driving shoes.

Yeah, that should work. :o Seriously though, shoes are an often overlooked aspect of how to deal with the limited space.

I wear 12 wide. I shaved the pedals down, used the RT gas pedal, and have the clutch pedal adjusted even with the brake. I can just barely operate them with regular shoes. I bought a pair of Simpson driving shoes and they do allow more freedom of movement.

I wear size 12 wide shoes. My driving shoes are my worn out jogging shoes which I modify, so to speak, by cutting off the inner and outer edges of the soles, which usually extend about a half inch beyond the fabric. Nobody's looking at your feet when you're driving a roadster. Doing this gives my old shoes a second life.

I usually have some Dockers boat shoes. I cut the edge of the sole down on the inside of my right shoe. No one has ever noticed.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one trying to figure this out. With 12E feet, the Puma's in a size 13 were impossible to get my feet into (too skinny). I've got a pair of tennis shoes that are going to go through weight loss surgery in order to fit my foot between the gad pedal and brake pedal. I've already got the pedal pad as far left as it will go, so nothing more to be gained there. What's the statement about big feet?.......big shoes!

I always have to get wide shoes to fit comfortably. Of course, I could not find any driving shoes in wide. So, I ordered the Simpson ones figuring that I would just switch out when done driving to start walking around. When the Simpsons arrived, they are surprisingly comfortable. Wider than the average normal width shoe. Not "E" wide, but good enough not to have to pack an extra set of shoes.

Thanks for all the replies... yes.. I think driving shoes are probably the easiest way to make the space work

I wear size 13's and dropping the floor 3/4" was a big help for me. My feet feel far less crowded because my toe can get under the pedal box frame and under the LS side tube which is part of the frame. See the gap showing daylight in the photo. I don't wear the shoes shown in the photo to drive. But I built the box around those shoes so that anything else I drove with would fit easily (and they do).

I wear 14s and the Puma driving shoes work for me. My feet are not wide. I literally cannot drive the car in any regular shoes that I have.
