Has anyone installed a Coyote motor mated to a 4R70W auto transmission in an MK4 Roadster?
If so, how was the fit, what mods had to be done to accommodate the 4R70W?
Thanks

I installed that transmission that was supplied by Performance Automatic with Powertrain Control Solutions module in 33 HR. There are connections required from the brake light switch to the module to unlock the converter when the brakes are applied , make sure to use the 4 terminal brake switch available from FFR. You will use the clutch switch to trigger the signal to the controller this means you need a 5 pin relay to reverse the signal due the clutch switch going open rather than closed. If the brake switch is shared with the signal you will get a back feed that unlocks the converter in time with the signal flasher. The speed sensor out put must also be sent to the engine ECM to prevent stalling, there is a Ford Technical bulletin on the procedure. They have a speed module to imitate the signal but I think the simple wire install works well. You will need a radiator to operate the trans cooling required. I would not do a separate cooler unless it is going to be raced.
The relay connections required are:
Key controlled power goes to pin 86, pin 85 (on relay) is routed to the clutch switch pin and the other pin on the other clutch switch goes to ground. Key controlled power goes to pin 30 on the relay and 87a supplies power to the trans. module.

Good info to know, thank you.
what about fit within the chassis and body. Did you have to make any modifications to get the 4R70W to fit behind the Coyote?
thanks

i don't have a coyote, but i used an 4R70W behind the precursor to the coyote. I have the 32 valve 4.6.
Fit is just fine. The only modification i had to do was the rear A-shaped trans support. I had to cut one leg of it and add a kick-out to clear the trans oil pan. Easy job. took an hour or so. Everything else was smooth.

I did not have to do much modification, using a Lokar shifter I made an aluminum plate window near the base to give more room for the shift rod and gear lever indicator system available from Lokar.

Fordguy be aware that the chassis in the 33 is nothing like in a roadster.
