I’m starting to look at wiring now. I have Coyote engine pack. Looking at the Coyote installation kit that is supplied by FF there isn’t a power cable that goes from the Ford Performance Power Distribution Box on the Control Pack harness to the 250A buss fuse. Is this a cable FF should have provided or do I need to make it myself?

Thanks,
Tim

In my 2016 vintage Coyote installation kit, that cable was not included. Of course, they weren't yet including the computer mount bracket, either.

For my coyote power wiring, I ended up buying an inexpensive hydraulic crimper to make my own cables. Parts from Delcity. They also have the Fusion solder connectors, which I used to make my battery cables. Good stuff.

*** EDIT *** Apparently my memory is going the direction of my money on this project - gone, gone, gone. Comments below helped knock the rust off. There was a nice, thick power wire that came with the FR power pack, which I modified it for length. That's where the hydraulic crimper came in. Sorry for the confusion.

Did you check your controls pack wires? It may be there. (Mine was - Gen2 controls pack) Otherwise, make one, but you want something pretty heavy.

Nothing there. Thanks. I'll make one. Easy enough I guess.

Sounds like a Gen 3 Coyote? You don't specify and there are differences. The Gen 2 Control Pack came with the wire you mention. Page 16 of the Ford Performance instructions. For the Gen 3, they don't provide the battery to fuse holder or fuse holder to FPPDB. Says that in the first point on page 16. Guess too many people (like me...) didn't use the power wiring previously supplied. So yes, you need to make or buy your own. I'm not aware that Factory Five has ever provided power wiring. The completion kits tend to be mainly fuel and mechanical components.

If I'm not mistaken, it is a #4 wire. It's easy enough to solder the ends on. The wire that came in my controls pack was probably on the order of 12 inches long. (I'd check it, but the car is out of state...)

Oh-boy, now I’m totally confused. I thought I ordered a Gen 2 Coyote engine. Factory Five AT (whom I purchased my engine package from) didn’t supply me any information with my engine package. All I got was an invoice with vague part descriptions. I’ve had to look everything up on the internet to find out anything about it.

The control pack I received is this one:
Part # CM-14A006-A504VBControl Pack Wiring Harness 5.0L Rev 2

Can anyone tell me where to find the Engine serial number so I can look up and see exactly what I have?

Here are the instructions which I think you are referring too. But it is not the wiring I received.

The one I received looks more like this one:

Your engine serial number is on the DS head and has a QR code with it. It's right on top. I'd call the Ford tech line with the numbers from that label and see what they say.

Based on the links you provided, I believe you have a Gen 3 engine. The wiring you received - or at least the picture - is different than mine, which is a Gen 2. Keep in mind that there are two versions of the Gen 2 wiring, however, and mine is the earlier version. Nevertheless, if you just purchased your engine recently, if it's new, it would be Gen 3 as they stopped making the Gen 2 engine - as I understood it - at least a year ago.

Ok, thank you. I looked at the location you mentioned and there is nothing there. There is a number stamped into the block on the PS just above the oil pan and forward of the motor mount but its double stamped and super difficult to read. I'm trying to decode it. I guess I'd better get this sorted out. I'm really new at all this and I'm learning so much. I can call Factory Five as well and see what info I can get out of them.

All of the control pack instructions you linked are Gen 2. Yes, there are a couple versions. But the differences are relatively minor. It's vitally important you know whether you have a Gen 2 or Gen 3 Coyote. It's been three years or so since Gen 2's were built. Ford started using the Gen 3 Coyote with the 2018 Mustangs, and the factory switched over before that. Ford Performance has been selling out their stock of Gen 2's, and the pipeline is running dry. I've heard from multiple sources they're no longer available. Two easy clues (there are many) to check yours: (1) The PCM in your control pack will be from Bosch if a Gen 3. Says right on the top. If it says Continental, that's a Gen 2 PCM. (2) Looking at the Gen 3 Coyote, on the RH cylinder head is a somewhat large pump, along with a bunch of other plumbing that wasn't on the Gen 2. That's the Direct Injection (DI) pump. Real obvious in this picture. Also the Gen 3 is quite a bit more expensive than the Gen 2. I suspect you would have noticed that, although maybe not made clear there is a difference. Not sure what Factory Five is selling. I do know they recently posted Gen 3 Coyote installation instructions. Hope this helps.

Ok, thank you very much. My PCM says Continental and there is no large pump on the RH cylinder head. So I'm looking at a Gen 2.
