View Full Version : Is this how the balance bar is supposed to work?

Hi Everyone,

I just finished installing and adjusting my pedal box balance bar. I followed the instructions but it seems to have quite a bit of play...is that how it's supposed to work?
If someone could watch my short video and let me know if that's normal (or needs further adjustment) and let me know, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!
Frank

Looks OK, but I have to admit the Wilwood instructions are the most incomprehensible you will ever find.
Have to drive to see if getting equal pressure.

Just did mine, your video looked correct except side play should be .25 or less. Had to bleed and bleed some more to get all ( I hope) of the air out and the balanced; the side that continuers to move (spongy) might still have air in the lines; adjust the push rods out out to remove slop, and the switch adjustment will determine pedal home positionto

Agree - too much side play:

Here is a video from Tilton showing the setup of their version:

Mike and Todd,

Thanks for the suggestions. I agree too much slop. I did watch that video while initially adjusting the bar but I couldn't figure out how to independently adjust each side of the bar...I didn't remove it from the pedal like they did in the video.

I will re-bleed the lines, re-check the pushrods and see if I can adjust the clevises tighter.

One more brake question...yesterday I removed the jacks and lowered the frame to the floor. As I pushed it around, it seemed like the brake pads are rubbing on the rotors. Is that normal with new brakes/until the pads are broken in, or do I need to open the pads a little more...and how do I do that?

Thanks guys,
Frank

Then reattach the MC pushrod.

Disk brake pads always rub the rotors just slightly. When the pedal is released, the calipers retract enough to relieve pressure on the pads, but they stop still with slight contact. There should be very little friction. But you hear the pads rubbing against he rotor when you turn the wheel. Kind of a very light scraping sound. Totally normal and how they're designed to work. Your DD is the same way.

Ok, thanks. I suspected that was the case but wasn't sure.

Thanks!
