Are we suppose to rivet the drivers inner footbox to the 3/4 inch square tube or are all rivets to aluminum panels only?119796

and happy new year everybody!!!

UPDATE: got another question on the gap that I'm getting between the firewall and drivers top inside panel. Attached are photos, do I just silicon it or make a spacer? What's your inputs or recommendations? 119850

I didn't rivet anything to that 3/4" tube. I did rivet/rivet nut to tubes in some areas, but not that one.

Nick, no need to go to the square tube in that spot. Panel only.

Second question: the picture above is the space between the firewall and the driver's top inside panel. It's relatively a large gap and can't seem to close it. Any recommendations?

Nick, I just went out and looked at mine. I have a similar gap. I measured mine at about 1/8". Honestly, I never noticed it before. Now I'm thinking about laying a bead of silicone and riveting it to close it up a bit.

I'd cut a narrow filler strip of aluminum. While you are at this stage be sure that you seal off every joint to keep water out. Firewall, both foot boxes, rear cockpit panels, trunk. My old MkII has always leaked but I am getting close to having it sealed. The last area giving me a fit is the driver footbox. So many joints and penetrations that are hard to find and seal w/ the body on.
