What I'm doing is changing my tail lights on my MK3 to the older style as on the 289FIA car . I like the look of the one light verse the two tail lights . My problem is in getting the turn signal to stay flashing when the brake lights are on .. Its been 12 years since I built the car and I can't remember where I put my wiring diagrams .. Any help would be great .. Thanks Greg.

Are the new lights LED? You may need to do the "trailer" wiring modification and be sure your flasher relay is LED compatible.

Here are the notes I used provided by Jeff Kleiner:

No pictures but simply follow the colors!

In the rear:
The Ron Francis harness is set up so that all 4 lamps are illuminated for tail lights with one on each side used for brake lights and the other on each side used for turn signals. I prefer to orient them so that the uppers are brake lights for better visibility. When using that configuration:

---Tan harness wire at each corner is for tail lights and will go to the low element on all four light assemblies via the red/yellow lamp wire.

---Purple harness wire at each corner is for brake lights and will go to the bright element on the upper light assembly per side via the green lamp wire.

---Yellow harness wire on the driver's side is for left turn and goes to the bright element on the lower light assembly via the green lamp wire.

---White harness wire on the passenger side is for right turn and goes to the bright element on the lower light assembly via the green lamp wire.

---Black wire on all joins with the black harness ground.

In front:

---Tan harness wire at each corner is for the amber parking/running lights and will go to the low element on both light assemblies via the red/yellow lamp wire.

---Dark green harness wire on the driver's side is for left turn and goes to the bright element on the light assembly via the green lamp wire.

---Light blue harness wire on the passenger side is for right turn and goes to the bright element on the light assembly via the green lamp wire.

---Black wire on both joins with the black harness ground.

If you do that you don't need any stinking pictures!

Jeff

I know that , its for two lights per side , I'm going with one light per side like whats on the rear of the 289 USRRC cars .

Again, "trailer" wiring modification. It will convert your five-wire (two light) setup to a 4-wire (single light) setup.

I used the Ron Francis turn signal converter. I still have the 4 tail/brake/turn lights, but the converter allows the brake and turn lights to operate one bulb (in my case 2 of the same bulbs). I have LEDs as well. Works great. http://www.ronfrancis.com/prodinfo.asp?number=SS%2D6

IF you need a circuit that will allow all four for brake and both upper AND lower for TS, it is still available for free - uses two double pole relays ($10.00 ea.) to isolate the brakes from TS circuits. It will work with four bulbs OR two bulbs (older 289 style).

PM me if you are interested

FWIW, there have been numerous discussions about the difficulties (read: "could never get it to work correctly" - "needs to be powered to function") of using a "trailer adapter".

Been running this circuit on my car now 18 years, no issues.

I have been using Doc's system for many years and it works great. I also have a CHMSL.

Thanks Doc.
