Doesn't seem to be many drag racers here.

2yrproject, interesting info but very old. It does seem that there are more folks on the other site that like to run their cars at the strip.

Race season starts here in AZ next month, if this thread is still around maybe I'll have some numbers to post.

I saw that link but a lot of the posts are old and looking for more recent data.

NAZ, which track do you race at in AZ? Is speedworld open still?

I haven't made a pass in years; however, I do plan on playing at Gulfport Dragway this summer.

Will post my times when that time comes.

Right after you get escorted to the gate, lol...

NHRA/IHRA rulebooks are not FFR roadster friendly.

You need a 5 point bar (with door bar) under 13.49 / 8.25

You need a certified cage under 11.00 / 7.00

Nothing "reasonably do-able" in a "street" roadster is going to pass a cursory tech inspection.

The challenge car bars would give you a reasonable argument down to 11.00 / 7.00

I competed in the RunN’Gun event at Gateway International several years ago and turned 12.2 @ 118 with no hook up all the way through first gear (crappy Sumitomos and no track prep). The trap speed is indicative of 11 second potential with a good launch.

12.2, that's good for a roadster not designed for the strip.

I'd say that was a stellar performance on Sumitomos + an unprepped track.

Mikeee,

You'd be surprised at what they let us get away with down here.
If it is one and done, I'd be shocked because I've seen GTR's run in the 10's with a no safety goodies at all.

Merry Christmas everyone! We ran our MK4 at Beech Bend Raceway during 2018 Hot Rod Power Tour. We hit 12.0 twice. Following is one of the runs:

R/T .070
60' 1.977
330 5.166
1/8 7.838
MPH 93.39
1000 10.090
1/4 12.014
MPH 115.66

Car has 3.08 rear gears. Running Michelin Pilot Super Sport 295/35R18. Launch about 3000 rpm. Dyno'd at 428 rwhp/419 rwtq. The 3.08 gears are more for cruising. I did do a HPDE at VIR this fall and look forward to going back there this spring.

A late model hardtop changes everything:

There is a typo in the article: "However, these new performance levels do apply to a convertible or T-top equipped car" should read:

"However, these new performance levels do not apply to a convertible or T-top equipped car.

Hey Naz - we need to see some video of that bad boy. What class do you run? Is it an index or ET bracket?

I live in the country with just a tad over 1Mbps upload speed, all I can manage is uploading stills. I have some video of two runs in Vegas but can't get them to upload before timing out.

I built the car to run Super Pro and that's the class I ran last year but all my racing buddies run Pro. So I pulled the delay box out (not legal for Pro) and plan to run ET Pro with my buddies this year. I'll be a bottom bulb racer instead of a top bulb racer so that will take some getting used to. The car with the new engine and rear gears should be capable of running deep into the nines on just the motor (@2,000' DA), and mid eights with the nitrous. Won't be using the nitrous in Pro, car is plenty quick for the Pro class (9.00 to 13.99) even at the higher DA here in AZ.

Here is what I did during the 2019 Hot Rod Power Tour up at Norwalk OH Summit Motorsports Park. I did not hook up real well and lost traction at about 1/8 mile and lifted a bit... this was all "FUN" runs. Camaro hit Nitros at ~1/8 mile as is evident by the time slip. I had him all the way until I lifted and he nailed the Nitros. It was Fun...

Time Slip (I'm car number 11 on the right side of slip)

As far as set up, I have the IRS with the double adjustable Koni coil overs. I have them set at the factory softest setting. Tires are at about 23psi +/1. Shifted at 6000 RPM... my 0-60 time is typically about 3.95-4.05 according to my GPS spedo. 2nd gear hits 60mph at 6000 rpm. 3rd gear hit 100mph at 6000 rpm. Have no plan to ever find out what 4th gear does at 6000 rpm... LOL
