Is the Boss 429 too wide for the 427 Roadster?

The Coyote is nearly 30" wide as is the Kaase Boss 429.

I think if the engine scoots forward to the point where the centerline (front to back) is in line with the exit of the sidepipes that it may be possible. Hopefully someone will chime in with some first hand knowledge compared to my "I Think It Can Be Done" comment. Hood clearance may be an issue so a Super Snake Style Hood might be needed too.

It would be super cool if you can pull it off.

NOTE:.. My SBC is sitting 6" further forward than the typical SBF installation and I've got tons of room all the way around the engine bay so I think it is possible.

Good Luck From The Dark Dart ZF 6-Speed Side!

I'd love to see a Boss 9 in a Roadster. Without a doubt it will require custom headers and some significant aluminum mods on the footboxes and perhaps the firewall. Scooting the engine mounts forward an inch or two should help. Figure on a custom hood too. Nothing that someone with your experience can't handle. Go for it.

The SOC-427 Motor Is Even Wider Than The BOSS-9!

This Means The BOSS-9 Is Definitely Doable!

When I was a teenager, early to mid 90s, neighbour a few doors down had a cobra replica, no idea which one, with a supercharged 429. Should shake the house when he casually drove up the street.
One and only time we went to talk to him about it he yelled at my little brother for touching the paint. I never care to own a car I’d have to yell at a kid for touching.

Thanks guys. It would be an updated version of the Super Snake. I would use a Super Snake hood scoop

I don't think they ever put a SOCH in a Cobra. Cobra 427s have standard pushrod heads. I think the cammer was 2 inches wider.

But, I don't think the Boss 429 was wider than a 428, so likely would fit side to side. I'll bet at least one of guys here has all of these numbers in their head. A coyote is HUGE and they get those in. If your willing to weld, you can make anything fit.

I looked this up......"Pricing starts at $22,900 for a Dyno Tested ready to bolt in Kaase Boss Engine." Ouch!

I don't think a SOCH ever went into an actual Shelby either, but if you can fit a SOHC in an ERA then I'm sure it could be done to a Factory Five so the Boss-9 might fit too.

I'd just like to see a Boss-9 in a Factory Five because it would be cooler than cool; however, some one will need Deeeeep Pockets to pull that one off.

Fits just fine! Thank you very much! You do have to bolt the heads on after the engine is in.

Jay Leno has a Cobra with the SOHC 427 installed. He featured the car on one of his TV episodes where he gets beat up by a Tesla.

Leno’s cammer is a replica I believe. I’ll dig out a cobra book I have, pretty sure they have an original someone put a cammer in.

I have got to say.....That is some SERIOUS eye candy!

Jay Leno's is a replica. It is a hand built one-off. Unless he added another one to his collection. I did see a 289 in the background on one of his shows, but it could have been someone else's car.

Looks like it fits. And looks like it will be easier to change plugs in the roadster than in the Mustang with those big Ford engines.

This is what everyone needs, an engine almost bigger than the engine bay. Wish FFR would supply one of these engines with each kit so it would become the standard instead of that diminutive 302. Then we'd have to raise the bar on our discussions about what constitutes too much HP.;)

Merry Christmas and enjoy your holiday.:)
