Hey guys,

I'm looking at options for a short throw shift kit with the FF nylon shifter and am having some fitment issues. I ordered the following thinking it fit the Corolla model this shifter comes from, but after installing it does not fit whatsoever.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ralco-RZ-Short-Throw-Shifter-Shift-Kit-Toyota-Corolla-03-09-All-Models-5-6-Spd/401916632147?epid=1533350172&hash=item5d94191c53:g:11IAAMXQ1PNRaTCW

Wondering if I ordered the wrong one.

That appears to be the correct model and year for the shifter assy. Maybe they shipped you the wrong short shift kit?

That’s what I’m thinking. I found another website where I provided the Toyota PN of the shifter that is provided in the kit and they claim they have one that work work. We’ll see, unfortunately they are shut down now for the holidays so I won’t know until the new year if it fits. Fingers crossed.

Hopefully it works for you. Nothing worse than shiny new parts (that you paid for) that won't work.

Try from these guys Toyota Corolla 1998-2013, plus they have some of the best shift knobs. Pattern 4 was the closest to the Mendeola trans.

Thanks for the heads up Edgeman. I think I came across these guys when I was researching it, but was scared off from the price.

I do have one on the way, but if it doesn't work out, I may go this route. I see that within the 1998-2013 there are three options for year ranges. I'm guessing its the 2003-2008?

I think these guys are out of business and some scammers are taking the calls. I've emailed them twice, their website doesn't take payments, and when you call its shady as all hell. I've tried twice, the first being a horrible oriental speaking lady answers and can't even tell me what the price is, she wants me to tell her. The second time I called some other foreigner answers, I tell him I want to order something, and his first question is what is my card number. Yea, needless to say, I hung up.

Sorry man, it was 7 years ago that I had order from them. Not sure what you could do.
Maybe these https://www.cosmoracing.com/sport-short-shifter-kit/toyota-shifter

No worries, just thought I’d share what’s up with TWM. I did some other searching on them and yea tons of post about them shut down, taking money, and not delivering.

Funny you send this new company, I sent them a request for measurements, but they can’t help as parts are in a warehouse. Maybe worth a try. Worse case I’ll just return it.

SUCCESS!!!

Third times the charm on the adventure of getting a short throw shift kit that actually fits. I'm guessing somewhere over the years companies just made their aftermarket solution "universal" to fit a broader year range instead of having a shorter window of year range. The issues I was seeing is the main gimbal ball was not perfectly round and would end up with slop in the shifter housing. Anyway, Cosmo Racing in Canada has what works, below is the link. Included in the kit is the machined aluminum bases to replace the rubber bushing and a retain ring to replace the one you will tear up when you take it apart.

All in with shipping it was about $85.

Perfect fit in the base.

I had to take the Dremmel to the base a little bit where it is close to the shifter boot to make clearance, but she is in there.

If you can find a weighted shift Knob like the one above, it makes it very easy and soothe to shift with the medeola transaxle. JMHO, it was worth it and it looked way better than the one factory five supplied.

Excellent, thanks for the tip. I was never totally fond of the FF one.

Not sure if you have a catch can for the transaxle yet but if you check out the top pictures in the link below. Was an easy install and nice add as being polished aluminum, fit right in with the transaxle.

Hi, wasn't able to find this shifter any longer on their site. Do you remember if it was their shifter, or if they were a dealer for the manufacturer? If dealer, do you recall the manufacturer name? I am looking for a 5 speed shifter for the mendeola style transaxle; cable actuated.

Thanks,

tfraz

Hey tfraz,

It looks like maybe they changed their links on the webpage. I was able to go search for Toyota Corolla and it looks like they still have them available. The only issue is there are three year ranges available (93-97, 98-02, and 03-08) and I can't remember which one I picked up. Not to mention all three state "Pre-Order." I'm usually pretty good about documenting purchases, but I must have quite on this effort as it was the third time I ended up ordering something.

Something in me is saying it was the 98-02 from memory, but please don't hold me to it if I'm wrong.

Here is the link to all the Toyota shifters.

Do you have this on your setup? How do you like it?

I have it on my 818, which uses the same shifter. It’s a huge improvement, I’m very happy.
