Installing my FFR Headers with cats on a coyote. Should I use the stock mounting bolts or upgrade to a better brand or style? If upgrade, which ones do you recommend? I have read that some peoples coyotes have come with studs to mount headers.....mine did not.

Thanks

I recommend the Stage-8 locking header bolts for any application.

I ordered these from Totally Stainless...they install just like a regular header bolt with 5/16 head for better clearance. Size is 3/8-16 x 1"

There's nothing wrong with the stock studs and nuts. They'll last well over 100K miles on a stock Mustang.

I would recommend shortening them though They're way too long for the average header plate, and it takes forever to tighten those stock locking nuts.

If Factory Five Headers, they should have come with bolts. The studs are fine if you can get the headers in . If you shorten them it can be done. I usually remove the studs before I put the motor in then I use the FFR supplied bolts for the headers.

There is no need for a smaller head bolt on the Coyote Headers. The bolts FFR supplies have 17MM heads and its no problem getting a socket or wrench on them.

Are you installing cats with the long tube FFR headers or the shorties? If the long tube, how do you plan to accomplish this?

I have the FF Coyote headers that have the cats mounted to the end of the header where it connects with the side pipe. FF part number is 16792.

Left the studs in (shorty headers) & used the original nuts on them; no leaks, no tightening in 12,000 miles.

I have a set of stage 8 header bolts that I got for my coyote. couldn't use these because they are coarse thread and my block is fine thread. (So I ended up ordering yet another set...) Newer blocks should be coarse thread. PM me if interested and we can work something out.

Back when I built my roadster, there were a lot of posts from fellows having issues with exhaust leaks, and header bolts backing off. Percy's Split lock bolts were being recommended, to solve the problem. I used them when I initially installed my 4 into 4's, back 10 years ago, and have not had an issue. The Remflex gaskets may have also been a factor, as they are top notch.
The few extra $$ gave me peace of mind. It seems Percy's don't make that particular type anymore, but they do have the Vibe Lock, which I presume is a new improved type. They are very similar looking.

Do you have a link for these? I’m interested, but that number isn’t recognized on the FFR parts site and the Kit site doesn’t have any pictures of it.

They aren't on the parts site. Only the kit site. I can take some pictures of mine and send them to you if you'd like? DM me with your email. They are very nice.

just starting with my stage-8s to mock up before engine install... I'm assuming the tight space between the header and the block is going to produce copious amounts of new words and maybe an 11th or 12th knuckle on my hands?

Yup and yup. I had a hell of a time getting the one closest to the driver. Even with a modified wrench grounded down it was still not fun.
