View Full Version : Blueprint + Sniper - question on placement of fuel pump and filters

First off, I have a 3-link solid axle and I'm using a Blueprint 347 package with the Holley Sniper EFI system.

I think I've worked through transitioning from what was provided with my complete kit to what has been provided with the Blueprint kit. Basically, I got to where I can duplicate the schematic from Holley on my workbench with the proper line and fitting sizes (everything to be 3/8").

Today I've been working on laying things out on the car.

First I need a gut check. For the return line - I plan to drill a hole into the middle of the pickup for the 90 degree fitting, and run the "drain" hose down from there rather than drilling a hole in the top of the tank. Will that work? I'm a little concerned I'm going to find that I can't fish the pickup back into the tank.

Another rework - attaching the plastic "drain" tube to the bottom of the fitting has two issues. The barb on the fitting seems like will split the plastic tube, so I plan to just Dremel the barb off. The hose clamp they provide is way oversized, so I'll just get a properly sized hose clamp. Not sure if anyone sees any issues with that.

Lastly, the fuel pump needs to be as close to the tank as possible, but also needs to be mounted below the lowest point of the fuel tank. I'm not finding a great spot to mount the pump that will be low enough, yet leave room for proper hose bend radii as well as the post fuel filter. Anyone have any tips? I haven't found a good build reference that has had this same configuration.

I appreciate any input!

Have you considered just using the quick connect on your pick-up for the return by using one of these?

I'm using them on both the supply and return sides (just visible in the picture):

I can't use both of the outlets on the fuel pickup because one of them is for 1/4" line (my return line needs to be 3/8"). I could use that fitting for the other one though - thanks for that information!

It was expensive, but I went with the Pro-M setup.

I also have the Holley Sniper with a 347. I basically threw away everything except for the fuel pump from the F5 EFI "upgrade".

I bought my fuel system (hanger, pump, filter, fittings, lines, etc.) from Gorgon Levy. I ended up changing the hose that Gordon provided over to -6 braded lines, but used the rest. I really recommend an in-tank pump as well. With the external pump, you need to try to mount it at the lowest level of the tank. That's not easy to do with the roadster. I'm also running a BPE 347 with Sniper EFI.

I used an in-tank pump as well and drilled the hole in the tank for the return line - circled below in yellow. At this location the return line tube extension will drop into the sump. I sealed shut the other smaller return line at the top of the pump. Finally, consider enlarging the access panel in the sheet metal for easy access.

I used the Holley supplied parts and also had a hard time finding a suitable location below the fuel tank that I felt was safe so I rolled the dice and mounted it above the tank. I also drilled a hole in the sender to plumb the return. The plastic in-tank return hose does fit over the fitting.

So far it works just fine but I've only run the engine for a few minutes.

Also, this is on a gen 3 coupe so not sure if my setup will work for you. Good luck.

I am going with the exact engine setup you are. I decided to get rid of the stuff that came with the kit and get a Pro-M hanger, Aeromotive in-tank pump, in line filter and 3/8" lines. Check out my build thread for part numbers and details. It starts on post #316. The in tank pump will be run cooler, potentially last longer, and be quieter. I drove a FFR that has the external pump. It's loud enough to hear while the car is idling.

I basically did the same thing. I wanted to get it right the first time and not have to worry about dropping the tank or re-doing the fuel system after the car was all together.
