UPDATED 6/30/16 - there are some earlier pics in the posts below, but here's a finished pic of my S/C layout dash with glovebox. The basic cutouts (gauges and glove box hole) were done by ASTGlenn on his waterjet. The rest of the holes were done after a few weeks of sitting in the car with cardboard buttons and switches in place to see if they were intuitive enough for me. The dash includes

Smiths gauges from Nisonger
Air vent pulls from PaulProe (located on the outboard curves of the dash - they operate the ducts that are installed in the footboxes)
'65 / '66 Mustang switches: ignition (to left of steering wheel), lighter (12V accessories), and headlights bezel and knob on FFR light switch
Farmall tractor starter/horn buttons for horn and windshield washer pump - solid metal
FFR supplied lights for charge, brights, turn signal
Lucas wiper switch
FFR / Vintage Air heater switch with reproduction knob for an original AC or Cobra
Lucas toggles for fog lamps and cooling fan override
MGA map light and switch from Moss Motors
"Panel" knob at the lower right near the glove box is an original style knob for the dash light rheostat, but instead is mounted to the manual choke cable

The glove box is only about 1" deep and similar to GregM's. The door opening is the scrap from the cut-out that ASTGlenn provided with the panel. The door and backing panel are covered with leather to match the dash and the door is hinged using the same McMaster cabinet hinges that Greg recommended, along with a small cable to keep it level when open.

Underdash support comes from a full-width filler panel that came from ReplicaParts.

Very nice. Where did you get the PULL and WIPER knobs?

The PULL knobs came with the footwell vent kit I bought from a forum member PaulProe and the WIPER knob came from Anglo Parts in Belgium. At the time, there weren't any here in the US, but it sounds like you can get them through Superformance now - try their website as shopsuperformance.com.

Gumball,
Did you have to provide the dash blank or was that done by ASTGlenn, also? Very nice and well thought out! Thanks, WEK.

WEK - Glenn made the new blank using the same grade and gauge as the original. I still have my FFR blank and will probably offer it up at some point in the not too distant future. The nice thing about having Glenn do the major holes is that all the gauges line up correctly - especially those three across the center.

Gumball where did you get the vent system for the foot boxes?

I supplied the air vent kits to Chris. I've sent you a PM

Paul is a great guy to deal with and his footwell vent kit is very simple and functionally similar to the originals. Here is a photo of the vent dampers mounted to the footwell aluminum on my Mk3:

Photos available - PM me.

I would be interested in the vent system, as well. I think I saw them before but forgot where. If you could PM me, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, WEK.

As with my entire build - here's an update on an old thread. I finished the dash today, after having the guy who did the seats cover it with some left-over leather from that project.

The "panel" knob is actually on the cable that will connect to the mechanical choke on the Holley 650 dp.

Chris,

Looks really nice. I was going to just cover my dash with the FFR supplied vinyl but after seeing this looks like I will shift to leather.

Did you fabricate your own glove box?

Carl - Thanks for the good words. I used my FFR-supplied dash (uncut) just as a template, then had ASTGlenn (haven't seen him around here in a while) cut it on his waterjet. He did the gauge holes, the steering column hole, and the glovebox opening - he even provided the scrap piece for the glove box opening that became the door.

Chris-

Dash looks awesome! A really very nice job, and great detail all the way around.

Thanks for sharing and demonstrating a great example!

Steve

I know a good thing when I see it so followed Chris' lead and had ASTGlen cut out my dash also except a street version. I just couldn't imagine me being able to cut out all those perfectly round and aligned holes in the blank FFR dash with my jigsaw. Also used the vent system from Paul. I mounted the intake fittings in the radiator side panels. This really forces the air through the hoses and into the car. Works great on those warm days.
