I spent some quality time with CSX3049 at the Fall Vintage Festival at Road America yesterday. This car is one of the original S/C gentleman racercars that many of us try to emulate. It was originally delivered with black interior and unpainted body. Here are a bunch of general photos. Unfortunately, the owner was not around, so no photos of under the bonnet or boot. I have a bunch more detail photos of the exterior and interior, so let me know if what you're looking for isn't here.
It was very obvious that these cars were originally hand made (just like ours!) as the body was very assymetrical. Also, the paint was blistered, bubbling, and runny in spots - truly amazing for a (literally) million dollar plus car. It was driven to the track, though, not trailered. It appears to be owned (or serviced) by Colin Comer's place out of Milwaukee, WI (Colin's Classic Cars) as it was in his paddock area.
Photos available - PM me.

Doesn't the panel fit give you a warm and fuzzy? If we really mess up it will look original.

If not for the lower grill opening I would of thought it was a Factory Five car.

Yeah - this thing shows a life of use. Most replicas are much more detailed and pieced together by caring and OCD owners who make sure that as many of the small things are what we consider perfect. When you get up close to one of these old war horses, you really start to think that if we want our cars to be more accurate replicas, we have to cut some corners and not sweat the little things - like the rivet spacing around the leading edge of the hood. I've lost count of how many threads I've seen on that subject alone as people work to get just the right spacing - check out how the front corners look on this one, though. I don't know of anyone who would have the cajones to do that with their replica and say they were going for a more original look!!!

Lew - Here's a better shot of that opening. I know a bunch of people with Mk1-3 cars were bummed when the Mk4 was revised in that area to make it more original. Well, here's the real deal that looks "less correct" than my out-of-the-mold and yet-to-be-modified Mk3 oil cooler opening.

You didnt' get a wider shot of the dash showing the other side of the steering column and right up to the right hand side as well did you? I can't decide if I want to do that and leave it "rough and used" looking or work to have it as close to "perfect" all round as possible. I really like the rough look alot.

Awesome. That's SO cool. I wonder what that piece of tape on the speedo is for? You say you spent some quality time with her..... and I'm going to guess that you have many more pics to put up? I hope. maybe.......???

Eighty five pictures total - too many to just post them all. If anyone has requests, I'll put them up piecemeal, though.
The "tape" on the speedo was a faded decal of some sort; I couldn't make out what it originally said as it was just the adhesive residue.

I got to " Babysit" the Cobra at the "Gathering on the Green" at the Osthoff on Sat.
I showed my FFR Daytona, and Collin asked me to keep an eye on it while he went back to the track.
Life is good.

Yes. Thanks for a great tour. I felt like I was there crawling around and under the car. I have a "Cobra" book that doesn't even come close to the detail and great angle shots you made. Good work! WEK.

I noticed that the front and rear quick jacks are mounted opposite of each other. There are also spacers on the front set but none apparent on the rear. Anyone know if other originals are that way?
