Battery shorting danger!

Angels are watching from above, perhaps it is my father...

If you have a top post battery and use similar clamps as mine, you might be on the verge of some
unwanted welding.

Under hard acceleration, the battery may slide back toward the frame and short out.

Are all GTM's susceptible to this hazard, or just my setup? Same battery tray and clamp?

I think the paint was enough to prevent shorting. It seems like the clamp was touching, or a micron away?!

Definitely something to watch for. Most of the batteries I've installed were side post, but even still, you have to be aware of what is around/close to the + battery post and cable end/clamp/bolt. When using side post, I know that the metal elbows of the heater core coolant lines are close enough that it's difficult to get a wrench onto the battery cable bolt without the wrench coming in contact with the aluminum elbows.....which is a good reason to always connect the ground cable last and disconnect the ground cable first.

Agree Shane. I never liked the location of the battery ( - even though it's good for weight distribution/balance), it has always been difficult to access and removal is just a pain in the butt.

I'm going to invest in a better tray with a raised base and install some sort of 'locks' to prevent movement in
any direction.

Something like this has much better bracket stability!

You can find strap type battery clamps that do not protrude outside the dimensions of the battery sides.
You can also reduce the chance of touching something by positioning the battery cable clamp square with the battery sides. I put the covers shown in the other post on mine, also.
My application is in a roadster with a drop box, surrounded by all metal.

I can't argue with squaring the clamps to the battery body, but in the case with the GTM, there are some angled bars that shroud the positive terminal.

It would be tough to get a wrench or ratchet on there and have
freedom of motion .
