Well folks I had MK4 Roadster 9735 complete kit delivered last Friday Nov. 29. Also have Forte supplied powertrain waiting on the floor. Gen 3 Ford Coyote, Moser 3.55 diff, and Tremec TKO 600 5 speed. I'm a retired heavy equipment mechanic, so the wrench turning won't be a problem. I have been absorbing all I can from the Forum for the last several months, trying to figure out some details and which way I want to proceed with a few items. I'm sure I will have a few questions along the way and it appears there is plenty of help here. I won't be doing a detailed build thread as some have done, but will provide updates. Excited to start this project and hope it all goes well. Can't wait to hear that Coyote fire.

One of the best parts is when that great big truck drives down your street. Certainly not subtle...

Congrats on getting started!

Frankfort, were practically neighbors. We used to live off Laraway Rd between New Lenox and Manhatten. Our daughter still works in Frankfort. Will PM with some contact info.

Color is still up in the air. My signature color is dark blue, but I saw another combination recently I'm going to really consider.

Ok folks going to continue this limited build thread. With Holidays and some other issues did not get much accomplished in Dec, but started work in earnest. Did some preliminary body fitting of doors, trunk and hood. Cut all holes in the body. Finally removed the body got the chassis on stands and the fun begins. Prepped the Coyote with pan exchange and removal of oil cooler. Indicated the Quick Time housing, and installed the bracket for KRC powersteering. While in the process of doing this procedure, determined bolts sent with the KRC kit to install the bracket on the front of the engine were wrong. These bolts replace timing cover bolts which are removed. Correct bolts are 8mm x 1.25 x 80mm, bolts sent in kit were 5/16 NC. Caution to new builders, don't force these into that new engine block. After a call to KRC and explained the issue, new bolts were sent out. Dropped Coyote in last Saturday for first mock up. Got out that massive wiring harness and started laying out locations for Ford main fuse as well as Power Dist Box and engine ECM. Getting footbox aluminum marked and drilled prior to removal for finishing. That's about it for now.

9735 update. PC footbox and firewall panels complete. Mocked up those for final fitting and drilling (make sure no holes were missed). F panels PC and installed. Had a really good day yesterday most all of front suspension installed including front swaybar.

A bit behind you in a build, but close. Mine was delivered early January. Still missing Koni shocks, "F" panels, footboxes and other goodies. So I am hobbling along as best as I can. Side note, we are ex - Peoria, IL folks! Now in Cape Coral Florida. Nice and cozy in the garage here!! Have fun!

Ex Peoria folks wow. Our oldest lives down that direction in Danvers, her husband is from Hopedale. Hopefully you get caught up on your parts. I too had to wait for the F panels, they were not on the frame or shipped loose. They just got overlooked. Took about 1 month to get all the missing stuff. Good luck on the build. We have friends in Venice and Ft Myers and we get down that way in winter sometimes. Not this winter but will keep it in mind and maybe swing by and check out your build.

Airport is still there with an expanded runway N/S. But the restaurant is long gone. Unfortunately politics got involved and they even got rid of the flying / instruction service that was there as well. Seems silly to have a pretty nice facility and not want a business to flourish there.

Did I miss something here? Last photos were in January of a mostly bare frame with one rim mounted. Now you're go-karting? Wow! Talk about speedy! We need photos! Videos! Anything!

Al, you didn't miss anything, I struggle putting the pictures on the forum and have not done a lot of updates. I just put a couple in that Go cart post. Actually took it out on the street (were in a pretty rural area ) and had wife behind in pick up with tow strap just in case. It drove flawless for about a 3 mile ride. Even my basic alignment, based on edwards ( Pauls ) measurements were good.

Are you running 17"s? What size tire did you go with on the front?

Jryasko
08-01-2020, 07:46 AM
Yes I'm running the FFR 17in replica wheels. Fronts are 255/40/R17, rears are 315/35/R17 Nittos. I think nice fit and look. Had 1 minor issue with the fronts, I'm using the standard FFR brake setup and the front brake line were it connects to the frame bracket comes out straight. The right tire was making contact with the line especially on full right turn, left was too close for comfort for me as well. Replaced those lines with lines with a 90 degree fitting on that end.

Are coating your panels in the engine compartment or leaving them natural.

Some nerve wracking work done today, cutting holes for roll bars and windshield. Also been working on finalizing gaps for doors, trunk and hood.

Good luck with the bodywork. I left mine to the professional (Jeff K ) and glad I did as he has had a tough time with it as the body had lots of voids in it

Looking good! Great progress and looks like a nice clean build.

Looking forward to cruising down when the good weather returns to meet you and see it.

How long does your painter think it will take him?

Steve

Jryasko
11-27-2020, 05:30 PM
I didn't get a time frame from him yet. I'm thinking a couple months. The guy sold the body shop business, so he will be done with that the 1st of the year, but he will retain the rear of the building which is sectioned off to do projects like this. He has never done a FFR, but he has done many customs including Corvettes so I feel really confident in his work and I have seen some of them. I had talked to him several times this year but wanted to actually show him what the project was. Looking forward to meeting as you said when the weather get warm again.

Well 9735 is pretty much officially completed. Had Secretary of State out 2 weeks ago to install VIN number. Had just a short window this fall to drive, but really enjoyed it and can't wait for good weather again. Did trailer her over to a Mustang / Ford Show at the Autobahn Racetrack which isn't very far from me. Also have met a great group of builders in Northern Illinois.156840156841156842156843
