Has anyone found a set of high back bucket seats that fit in the 33? I have looked at all the threads in this area and could not find a definite answer. 18" wide seems to be the widest that will fit.

Would Kirkey 55's work or are they too much of race style seat for the 33?

No race seats. This 33 is for my wife. She wants comfort. Thanks anyway.

What about the possibility of doing the bench seat instead?

FWIW, here are 2 possibilities for seats that I hadn't heard of before

I’m making my own benchish style seat. I can’t go straight across as I need to be low (I’m 6’2”) to not hit my head on the top. The center will jump up a bit. It’ll allow a small someone to sit there, but not be a true slide straight across bench. Check out my build thread. Last few posts are working on it. It really won’t be done for a long long time (interior will be last) but you can get the idea.

I am still looking also. If the weather gets better, I will go pull a seat from the Miata. They look like they would be close to fitting.

I swapped my FFR low back seats with a friend that bought a used Cobra, it came with Miata hi back seats.
These are much nicer, they have slides, adjustable seat backs, and speakers in the head rests.
They are a tight fit, you need to mount them with the back adjusters on the inside. I originally tried to fit the with the back adjusters on the outside but they hit the sides of the waterfall.

I would also suggest seats from a Mini Cooper. They are available in lots of different configurations (heated, speakers, lumbar support, etc). You will have to mount them the same as the Miata with the rear adjuster on the inside rather than outside.

Thank you for the picture. This is just what I needed. Oh, and is that an E36 M3 in the back ground?

No, it’s an E39 540 6speed with an M5 posi diff, long tube headers, 2 stage port injected nitrous, etc, etc.

I ended up with a pair of Miata seats. I went with them because I found a pair cheap, I have a Miata and already know what they are like, and they have speakers in the headrest. I am planning on new speakers and custom leather covers.

Nice BMW JimLev. Sounds like a real beast.

I replaced the speakers too with these, they sound much better that the original ones.

Also added seat heaters.

I am glad that you said something. I was just looking at those speakers. I am still deciding if I want to go with 4x2" or just 3.5" round speakers.

If you have the 4x2” I’m not certain the 3.5” ones will fit. Have you looked to see what’s in the seats you have?

I am also on the Miata forums and have been looking into headrest speakers. I just picked up a high millage, well kept NB Miata for my daughter. After getting some work into it, I have to admit, it is a blast to drive.

Thank you so much for saying that you mounted the seats with the adjusters on the inside. I was trial fitting them and it was not working out. My first thought was some way over engineered solution. Once I followed your lead, they fit. Next for me is new speakers and covers.

Are those the "Roadster" model from their "Daily Driver" series?

I bought a pair of the PRP seats. Well made and fit the car ok. But, they don’t fit my butt. Too much of a V fit in the lower area and I’m not that big a guy. I’ve got a set I’ll sell you!!

For installing Miata or other seats is installing just drill the holes for the rails and install them with large washers easy?

I used strips of L-brackets to raise the seats a few inches and threaded inserts going into the frame under the aluminum floor to hold the seats.

Thanks for the reply. I am getting my install plan together. I first need to rebuild the Miata seats. I just ordered 3" speakers and the new covers. Once put together, I will start working on the rails.

I love the Mini Cooper seats and planned to try that idea from early on. I found a perfect condition set from a 2019 model locally for a great deal so picked them up just to see. I think if I were planning to run a permanent hard top I'd probably go with it, but I really don't like the look with the open top. I had to remove the factory slide / mount in order for the seat to fit down low enough. Maybe an older (pre-airbag) version may be a better fit as well.

Those Mini seats look too tall to use a roof.
Have you done any measuring to see if the roof will fit?

Dangit...didn't even think of doing that Jim. Would have been useful info. I've already wrapped them and put them in the attic for a future project.

I have the NA Miata seats with Mr Mikes covers on them now. Even with the foam cut out on the bottom, they are just a bit high for me. I am thinking that I will cut the Miata pan out to see if I can get a bit lower. So far, they are more comfortable to sit in.166370
