I did use the search function )) But with no luck.

It is almost time to yank an engine out of the donor car, and put it home (Mk IV roadster). I recall reading that you need an engine lift plate to attach to a motor. Where can this be found? And also, any good photos of how to attach the engine to hoist? Tips on what to do, or not to do?

There are two lift points for a coyote engine. This photo shows one of them - it's on the DS head toward the front of the engine. The PS lift point is on the rear of the cylinder head. The lift plates are attached to the engine with metric bolts - 14mm if I remember correctly.

You can probably tell from the photo that my lift plate was homemade. It's 1/8 inch steel. The lift for the PS is also steel, but I just used a rectangular piece for that one. I think you'll find that many builders make their lift pieces as the Ford versions are somewhat costly. I'm sure others will contribute here, too.

One last item - the DS lift plate works best if it has a "curve" to it so you avoid touching the outside of the head as you lift the engine. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info.

I wonder if anyone in Atlanta area has lift plates that they can loan to me for a small fee.

When the Coyote was first made available as a crate motor (Gen 1) Ford included the lift brackets. They attach in threaded bosses made for that purpose on the front LH side and the rear RH back. They stopped providing them sometime soon after. But they're still around and occasionally see them on here or eBay. But beyond that, I've done homemade ones and then later purchased these: https://www.tdmotion.com/product/coyote-engine-lift-brackets/. Which I recommend. I believe Factory Five provides lift brackets if you buy the engine from them. Perhaps they would sell them separately? I vaguely recall Mike Forte also offering some. But not positive about that one. But several choices.

Thanks, I stumbled upon these. Seems a completely different approach. Any thoughts?

That's pretty cool actually. Would eliminate some of the obstructions when trying to use the side and rear mounted lifting points. Also I suspect would allow balance to be set more easily. Downside is having to take the intake off. Lots of wires, hoses, gasket surfaces, etc. Not a huge deal, but not something I suspect some builders would be very excited about doing.

These came on my Coyote from FORD. The ones EdwardB mentioned. Expect there are some floating around for sale on the internet from older Coyote builds. Also take a shot at placing a wanted add on the FFR & Mustang sites. Engine install/removal can be a one man job with them.

Connect with Ducky2009. He has a coyote and he's local to Atlanta. Don't know what he used, but it might be worth a note to him...
