Anyone want to come forward with ideas for the mods on how (or if) they should go about sub-dividing the Canadian section?

From what I remember, traffic here is generally not high enough to warrant regional splitting at all, but that depends on how information gets archived and remains searchable. If everything remains on one forum 'page', threads ride to the bottom and on to the second page rather quickly. I don't know how this forum is set up to archive info, but I don't want to lose good ideas or suggestions just because they have drifted to the back pages of the forum.

I know for instance, that import restrictions and regulations will continue to be an important area where lots of questions are asked and opinions offered. Would it make it easier if there was a sub-heading for these topics?

Probably the other big CDN specific issue is insurance and registration, but since this is different in each province, it seems this might not be so easy to usefully separate?

How about a Canadian classified's section? We all know about the cost and hassle involved in buying parts cross border and many of us have spare goodies that maybe aren't worth enough to go to the trouble and expense of shipping to the US?

I know I have saved a lot of dollars by buying stuff from other Canadian members (and US members as well) but I like to be able to post short lists of smaller items I want to get rid of here first if I can to simplify things for myself and help our CDN membership as well. Do you think it's fine the way it is or do you think we should ask for a CDN classified section?

Just some thoughts. I know there are other great ideas that might serve to make this forum work better for us. Now's your chance!

Well, I think we definitly need a BC only section, I miss the sound of crickets chirping already:p.

I was going to request a special section for you alone Jim! We could give it an Okanagan theme by calling it "Snakes in the orchard" or "Fang's fruit stand"...:p

Maybe the Alberta guys could have "Efn's Alberta ettiquette" (kind of like a Miss Manners type column)?

What do you think?

I do like talking to myself (no one else seems to pay as close attention).

Oh and it looks like you're one post up on me, so....there it is.

A canuck classifieds would be a good idea, but it might limit exposure for the sellers. Shipping seems reasonable these days as long as it isn't UPS...which reminds me I have an axe to grind with ffr...

No doubt it wouldn't be the best place to sell more valuable items, but I was thinking of more common place "I don't need this fan belt or conical air filter" type of section?

Kind of like a garage or yard sale Automotive potpourri? :D

Ok, I know it probably doesn't NEED it's own section, I guess I just want to encourage other canucks to try and get rid of this stuff here. I know I've got a pile of little items in my garage that the wife would be happy to GIVE away!

I bet there's lots more like me.

I agree, a poster had a wiper kit in Woodstock Ontario I needed but it went south. There are lots and lots of things I am looking for.

I could have picked it up during one of my trips to southern Ontario.

But there are a lot more Americans looking to buy.

Hello Sean. We may need to cut the country into some regional areas. Even within Ont eastern and western not have many different events. Maybe we could have an event-cruise section to post get togethers. Regional or not, either would be fine

How about the mod create a "sticky", or FAQ thread on registration, importing, etc., FFR's into Canada?

I question the need to break down the Canadian section into Provinces. I never found threads got lost quickly on the FFCars Cnd forum section, and doubt they will here.

I really support the idea of a separate "Parts for Sale" area for Canuck's!

That's a great idea Bill. It would be enough to have a single 'sticky' thread near the top of the CDN section for that most commonly asked group of questions.

Hmmm... wonder if that might work as a Canuck parts for sale thread?

I know we don't get enough traffic to be too concerned about certain topics disappearing too quickly, but I would like to get an idea from one of the administrators how topics get archived (or not). On the old site you could search for information all the way back to 2002 (yes, sometimes old ideas are good ones) and I just want to be sure old posts here don't get permanently dumped past a certain date etc..

I second the idea of a Canadian classified. For those looking to buy a "ready built" car, they would not have to search through the US listings to find those in Canada.

Count me on the Canadian list ; good idea for saving on many parts

Thanks to Sean for suggesting additional functionality for the Canadian region! Yes Sean, I do get to my PM's eventually. Sorry for the delay...

So, What do you guys want to do? Do you want a separate Classified section in the Classifieds forum, Or will a sticky do? If someone creates a Registration thread I certainly can sticky that for you.

We could do a separate registration/import sticky thread and FAQ sticky, if that's what you guys want.

Let's get this done so you have everything you need and that makes sense.

I am not sure how others feel about this, but I think a sticky thread here to allow Canadian buyers and sellers a quick heads up about local parts for sale before they go to the general classified section might give us canucks even more reason to visit here and 'talk' :D?

I don't think it would be intended to supersede the parts for sale section, just a means to get rid of those things others might be able to use that don't justify the expense and hassle of crossing the border for instance?

The Canadian FAQ could definitely be easily done with a sticky thread at the top of the Canadian sub-forum.

Those are just my thoughts but I hope others will offer their opinions as well?

You are right Canuck1 and the David's suggestion will make the job. An separate thread for Canadian will help to know the differences between buy in USA ou by import.
I bought a complete kit in last October and many parts were missing from the brochure description of it. I would like the opportunities to be able to get some parts faster that importing with all the hassles coming with the borders or UPS.

I agree 100% with both suggestions..

I have started threads on both FAQ and items for sale/wtb, if David could now make them sticky's, this would be fantastic.

Cheers, Bill
