Okay guys, this will sound like a dumb, noobie question but I haven’t seen these Wilwood rotor hat bolts before, like an inverse Torx bolt? Are these a particular size E-socket? The closest thing I have in my toolbox is a 12pt 5/16” socket but don’t want to round these... wisdom from the wise please?

Thanks, Jeff

Check the parts list included with your Wilwood assembly instructions (the list is typically on page 3). On my Wilwoods, those rotor hat bolts are 1/4"-20 x 0.75" long, 12 point. Depending on your kit, they may in fact be 5/16" or maybe metric.

The "socket" in the head of the bolt comes into play when you get to safety wiring; it helps you get the wires to pass over/under each other when threading them through the head.

Finally, note the torque spec for those rotor hat bolts is in inch-pounds! I can't tell you how many build threads I've read where a guy misses this important step and snaps a bolt off into his rotor.

The rotor hat bolts use a 12-pt socket (same style as ARP bolts). As John said, 155 inch pounds, which is just a bit over 12 ft. lbs. Also, a dab of red thread locker on each bolt.

You need to use a 12 point socket on those, 6 point won’t work.

Thanks John! Yes, I caught the INCH torque note but didn’t check the parts list for details. Appreciate the quick response.

I received my brakes last weekend and yes a 12 pt socket is needed. I checked the bolts with an opened end box end wrench and the bolt head is 5/16 12 pt. of all the sockets I have I did not have that one. So Ipurchased one and did not have any issues torqing to the inch lbs needed. Now installing the lock wires is another story. Good luck with your build.
