I have Sube Cobra Clubman seats and Universal Sliders for my MK4 but I’m stumped on how to mount them in my car. The Clubman seat cushion isn’t removable and the seats are designed to mount from below.

In the listing for the sliders Sube states that they are “Designed to mount to either Planted or Brey-Kruase seat brackets”. I looked up both of those companies and while they have brackets for many cars none seem comparable with ours or are universal.

I’m not committed to using the sliders if there’s a good way to mount the seats without them. Also I’m using 4-point restraint harnesses.

Any information from others who have mounted Clubman seats in a Roadster would be much appreciated! I love the seats and really want to make them work!

Thanks, Lance

If they mount from the bottom, you could make a template of the seat's mounting hole locations and transfer the locations to the floor. The universal sliders look like they could also mount directly to the floor using the same approach.

That’s a great idea but I still would have to figure out how to locate my seats, from under the car, to avoid conflict with the body.

Assuming the body is on the car.

Try this:

1. Create a template larger than the seat
2. Set the template onto the floor
3. Mark the template location on the floor
4. Position the seat and mark its location on the template
5. Remove the seat and position the teplate per the Mark's you made for the seat
6. Mark the template for the bolt holes
7. Position the template back on the floor per the marks you made earlier
8. Mark the bolt hole positions on the floor
9. Check the the holes line up in places you can access
10. Drill holes
11. Place seat in the car and attach bolts

Thanks! I really appreciate your walking through a logical visualization of the steps. I had been trying to do that but I hadn’t broken through all my imaginary barriers yet. Somehow I was thinking I’d have to drill the holes from the bottom up. You’re right, I can use templates made from above to locate where I want to drill the mounting holes from above.

Then I’ll take careful measurements of my preferred mounting hole locations from landmarks, like rivets through the floor which will be visible above and below, to make sure I’m well away from anything underneath that the would restrict access to the bolts.

I’ll let you know how it works out. It’s likely to be a week or two before I try since I still have to remount the body.

Would you recommend that I install the carpet before or after I’ve installed the seats?

For what I described above, I would not want to have the carpet in. Get everything positioned, drilled and then you can put the carpet in if you like. Once the carpet is in, locate the holes and cut an "x" for each one. Alternatively, grab a bolt about the size of the one for your seat mounts and grip the head with a vise grip while heating it with a torch. Then, with it hot, press it through the carpet at the hole locations. It will create a nice clean hole that won't unravel on you.

Thanks again! A few days ago I ordered three yards of 79” wide carpet to cover the trunk. I’ll use a bit of it to practice your hot bolt suggestion. It makes a lot of sense!

Here is a video of the same concept as the bolt …

Here you go: https://www.breezeautomotive.com/?s=70083&post_type=product
I went to look for it myself and it did not show up - I found the product was "published" but also "hidden" in wordpress so I fixed it for all to see now. Thanks for the heads up!
