Save the dates of June 25 – 27, 2020 for the 2020 London Cobra Show (LCS).

This show was originally called the Double Venom Spring Fling (DVSF) and became known as the London Cobra Show in 2005.

2020 will be a special year as it will be the 20th anniversary of the DVSF/ LCS.

Look for an exciting LCS in 2020, so save the dates of June 25 – 27, 2020.

See you in London and it is going to be fun!

I received word that the hotel for next year will be the Columbus Marriott Northwest on Blazer Parkway. It's about two miles from where we were last year. The note I received said to book early as there is another large car show in Columbus, the same weekend that we are there. Phone number is 614-791-1000 and the room rate for the cobra's is $119.00. Call and reserve your rooms sooner than later.

Thanks for the info Scott! I called and reserved my room, mentioned the London Cobra Show and received the $119 Group rate (he said it was cheaper than the AAA discount and the Marriott member discount) also informed me of their 48hr cancelation policy. Sounds good! Thanks for working it out. How's the parking for trailers?

I'm organizing the Gateway Cobra Club attending the event next year, hoping to get better than a dozen cars to join me. We're really looking forward to it, this will be my 4th trip and bringing some virgins with me (LCS virgins!!)
Always good to see JeffK & Aaron!

2020 LCS HOST HOTEL
Columbus Marriott Northwest
5605 Blazer Parkway, Dublin, OH 43017

You may make your hotel reservation by calling the Columbus Marriott Northwest hotel at (614) 791-1000 or on-line by clicking going to https://www.marriott.com/event-reservations/reservation-link.mi?id=1563888285087&key=GRP&app=resvlink.

When making your hotel reservation, please request the London Cobra Show nightly rate of $119.00 plus tax. This rate applies through June 2, 2020, after that date the special rate will no longer apply and the rate will be whatever the hotel has available. Please reserve your room early so that you will not be disappointed by having to pay a higher nightly rate.

The nightly room rate includes the following:

• Complimentary Parking.
• Complimentary breakfast.
• Complimentary Wi-Fi in the guest room.

The special nightly rate will also be honored three (3) days prior to and three (3) days after the event, pending availability.

Due to the lateness of the 2020 Father’s Day, our LCS dates happens to fall on the same weekend as the 38th Annual Dublin, OH Arthritis Foundation Classic Auto Show. The Arthritis Foundation show is an extremely large 3-day car show close to the same area of Dublin as our host hotel. Due to this, hotels in the Dublin area will be extremely hard to get the closer we get to our dates. It is highly recommended that you reserve your hotel room sooner than later.

The build begins for the 2020 raffle car. The kit was picked up this weekend and the building process has begun.

Dave Smith has promised to help us sell 25,000 tickets for this year's raffle car. This is a nice number and if this happens it will be around twice the best year we have ever had for ticket sales.

Raffle tickets will be available on-line when our website goes live around the first of November.

Counting on someone from the forum to be the lucky winner this year. Hope, hope!

I just booked also. All 2 bed rooms are gone.

This isn't looking like a viable choice for a single event hotel like last year if the rooms are all booked 9 months in advance and before the event registration has even begun however there are some others in the area that appear to be within walking distance of the Mariott:

Drury Inn & Suites
6170 Parkcenter Circle
Dublin, OH 43017

Hyatt Place Columbus/Dublin
6161 Parkcenter Circle

Homewood Suites by Hilton Columbus-Dublin
5300 Parkcenter Ave.

I have no idea if OCC has spoken with them or negotiated rates.

Jeff, I wonder if the rooms in their 'special rate block' are gone but standard rate rooms may be available?? Just a guess because the 'sold out' 9 months prior doesn't seem right. Perhaps they can take more reservations, just not at the special rate. ( I seem to remember the standard rate was $159 per night versus the special Cobra Club rate of $119). Don't know. just a thought.

Don't know Craig. Roy said that OCC blocked the same number of rooms as they did at the Crown Plaza this past June so I'm not sure what's up... Anyway, you and I are covered and worse case others can start filling the neighboring hotels if necessary. As you may have seen in the message I sent out to you and the rest of our usual band of misfits if we have to we'll just camp out under Frank's NAPA tents. That's pretty much where we usually are anyway :)

Made reservations at Marriott yesterday, No problem with a King bed.

FYI: The block of rooms is reserved for June 25-27, and to get the same rate for an early arrival, they had to do an over ride, so doing it online was not possible.

Roy Edgar
09-18-2019, 04:11 PM
Like last year with the Crowne Plaza, we may occasionally have a problem with the Marriott and a few reservations. If anyone does experience a problem in getting the Marriott reservation they would like, please contact us at info@ohiocobraclub.com and let us see if we are able to solve the problem.

For the 2020 LCS, we have the same number of rooms in our LCS room block out as last year. In fact, the Marriott has more total rooms overall than did the Crown Plaza. So far 40 individuals have reserved rooms at the Marriott.

We have spent a lot of time an effort into finding another hotel that will allow everyone to stay in the same hotel and enjoy the comradery of all of our Cobra loving friends. We hope eveyone stays at the Marriott as it should work out much better than the Crown Plaza did for our 2019 LCS.

The reason for the high number of reservations at this time is that the locals know how the Arthritis Foundation Classic Auto Show fills up the Dublin area hotels and have reserved their rooms early.

That is why it was suggested that everyone on the forums book their rooms ASAP at (614) 791-1000 or on-line by clicking https://www.marriott.com/event-reservations/reservation-link.mi?id=1563888285087&key=GRP&app=resvlink.

I booked my room!

I attended back in 2010, and this year will be coming with a car, sadly its not my own. I'll be representing the National Auto and Truck Museum in Auburn, IN. I'm bringing our Essex Cobra (http://www.thecarsource.com/shelby/cobra/essexcobra.shtml). This car, to my understanding, was built By Essex Wire (in Fort Wayne, IN) sometime after the original car 'went missing'?

Will there be a place for Trailers?

Really looking forward to visiting again!

Will there be a place for Trailers?

Assuming the setup is the same as last year at the Crowne Plaza, shouldn't be an issue. I'm guessing it will be. The trailers were parked around the perimeter of the reserved areas for our cars. Very accessible and easy to use as a garage in case of inclement weather. A bunch of us did that.

[QUOTE=Snakely;382749]Will there be a place for Trailers?[QUOTE]

Should not be a problem with trailers. The Marriott has a large parking lot. The hotel has also said they will work with the company that has an office directly across the street from the Marriott for us to use their lot for overflow, if needed. That office has a small work force but a very large parking lost that is not used much.

See you in 2020.

Not an RV'er and live 1 1/2 hours from Dublin/London. Asked those club members that live over there for recommendations and were given the following 2 RV parks:

The LCS website is ready for you to register for the 2020 London Cobra Show. This will be the 20th anniversary of the Double Venom Spring Fling/London Cobra Show or DVSF/LCS. The 2020 LCS is shaping up to be the best one yet, great times and friendships, a Cobra raffle, popular autocross, exciting cruises, and tours, as well as some great, nationally known speakers - all to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Information on Mid-Ohio track days will be available later.

Quite a few individuals that have never been to an LCS have indicated they will be attending this year, as well as several “old-timers” from the early days of DVSF/LCS. It is going to be fun and you don’t want to miss the 2020 show. If you have never been to LCS, then this is the one you need to attend.

When registering for the show, don’t forget to also register for your hotel as well. When making your hotel reservation, please request the London Cobra Show nightly rate of $119.00 plus tax. Please note that this rate applies until our block of rooms has been reserved or through June 3, 2020, whichever comes first, after that time, the special rate will no longer apply and the rate will be whatever the hotel has available. Please reserve your room early so that you will not be disappointed by having to pay a higher nightly rate or to stay at a different hotel.

To register, go to www.londoncobrashow.com

Hope to see you in June.

Hi Al
Are you driving or trailering down?
Several of us meet at the Oasis on I-294 near Hinsdale, then pick up another just across the Indiana border, then if weather permits, pick up sever people with Jeff Kleiner in Indianapolis.
Some years it's quite a convoy by the end and a lot of fun.
On rainy days....every man for himself. ha.

I'm east of you in La Grange Park. Perhaps we could meet up before London. People are always up for a weekend cruise.

Things are looking to be a great year.

So far the only disappointment is going to be the hotel.

I have tried to register and the only available rooms are a single king.
That would be fine if I was alone or with my wife, but that was not the plan.
Not sure if I am going to make the trip down this year. Looks like tickets only most likely.

Please keep me informed. I might be passing through St. Louis on my there. Haven't finalized my plans yet. Might drive, might trailer.

I registered and will definitely be driving through St Louis as I have family in Jeff City. Let me know if you drive Bob, I can't imagine too many others coming from this far west and driving their Cobras (Maybe Dave from Parker?)

The decision maker will be the weather. In KS, it's often >100*; and in IL, IN, and OH it tends to rain every day. We'll see.

Hey Bob, we'll probably be leaving St. Louis Thursday morning (my first time trailering, 2 trips in the roadster) and meeting up with some others along the way. We're still formulating plans, but probably most of the guys from our Denver trip plus a couple more.

If you need a place to crash Wednesday (or Tuesday) night, you are more than welcome to stay at our place, we have 2 available bedrooms.

Am all registered to this years show. No longer look for a little Blue Mark I! This year a new body on it.
A new paint job and color, may even have a pair of stripes!
Not sure yet as wife picked the color(s) and is not telling me what they will be except the paint is expensive.

No more bad case of stone chips all across the front!
No more hairline cracks in the rear where I buckled the body as I pulled out of the barn and caught the rear fender flare on the barn door!
No more covered cracks with red duct tape from my encounter with a deer at 70 mph!
BUT I will miss the shadow of a little tree air freshener that one of the special needs kids we use to take care of heard my wife say the car smelled of gas, so the little girl put the little tree air freshener on the left front fender. She wanted to help make the car smell better!

A paint job is being done by the local BOCES high school kids, where they are teaching kids a trade!

The old body is going to be turned into a love seat and a wall shelf. The body will be cut in half.
That project will wait till after the new body is on the car road again!

See you in London!

Suggest you register and make MAKE YOUR RESERVATION NOW!

The number of rooms that was originally reserved in the 2020 LCS room block was the same as in 2019. Due to the higher demand this year, additional rooms were recently added to our 2020 room block. However, we may not be able to get additional rooms added to our LCS room block going forward.

If you find that the LCS block of rooms have sold out, the Marriott should still have rooms available at the going rate.

The closer it gets to our LCS dates, the higher the going hotel nightly room rate will likely be.

Already have my hotel reservation, and I just purchased a raffle ticket.

What does the Saturday evening meal entail? Is it something I should buy ($41 per person/plate dinner)? I will not have a car entered in the show or anything. Driving up in my Mustang since my Coupe is under construction. Is this dinner for show members and their guests mostly?

Yes. For show attendees and their guests. Not having a car there doesn't matter. It's a nice dinner with special speakers, presentation of the CF donation, drawing for the raffle car, and typically announcement about next year's car. I don't have any data, but I suspect the majority of show attendees also go to the banquet. We've always attended and enjoyed it. Nice finish to a great event.

We would like to thank the following individuals that have recently purchased raffle tickets.

Over the past few years, the CFF has been making Great Strides with their CF research. Past LCS donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) have, in part, helped the Foundation fund the CF drugs – Kalydecoฎ FDA approved 2012, Orkambi ฎ 2015; Symdekoฎ 2018 and Trikafta™ 2019.

It is our hope that many more forum members will take a chance and purchase their raffle tickets. It will be a WIN - WIN, either you win this special FFR Roadster or your money goes to CFF - Money Buys Research and Research Saves Lives.

Roy, I have my room set. I will register by the end of the month once my wife decides if she is coming or not. I haven't sold the Serpent Trailer yet, so I might as well use it. See you in a couple of months.

If Fran decides not to join you and later changes her mind, we can always add her to the dinner list.

Looking forward to seeing you in June.

Hi Matt:

Did not see your original comment about the Mid-Ohio event. Checked our website and could not find where it said the Mid-Ohio tack day was tentatively for June24th. Then i clicked on the URL you posted and it took me to the Mid-Ohio site where it says it is tentatively on the 24th.

Don't know why they said that it is tentatively schedued - that is in error as it is on the 24th for certain. Will contact them and have them revise their site,

Thanks and drive safe.

Thanks Roy for all you do! Looking forward to it.

As these events relative to the size of the groups of people on the forums and at London Cobra Show events, the autocross and Mid Ohio event seam to be disproportionately small groups.

To the large amount of people that go to the London Cobra Show and other builders here on the FF5 forum, I have a question;

With the performance that most people build into their cars and not being able to use that performance on the street, why aren't these events which are safe and a lot fun

in controlled environments that allow you to use the performance and learn car control, why aren't you attending these events?

Maybe we wouldn't have as much news of tragic events, related to speed. Are we building performance just to build ego? I don't know and am seeking opinions.

...Are we building performance just to build ego?...

Matt

This is exactly the case all too often Matt. It's a conversation that myself and some of the other pro-builders have had many times. We get calls from guys inquiring about having a car built and they will often start by saying "I need 500 horsepower" to which we all reply "No, you do not". And when they do get it they find out that the cars are not really a lot of fun to drive or live with. Give me a slightly warmed over little ol' EFI Windsor like ours---what my good buddy and prolific builder extraordinaire Ron Everitt calls "the old reliables." I'd be happy to see some of these guys with the monsters under the hood come on out to Circleville on June 26th and dish up a serving of crow :)

OK, I'll put away the soapbox now.

I have another car for the race track. It's a bit faster, lots of fun, and quite a bit cheaper. www.RacingTheExocet.com

I raced the FFR for about 10 years. I'm pretty comfortable with lots of power in a small car. I built my Cobra with lots of power, because I like it. It makes me happy. :)

I had planned to arrive in Columbus Wednesday afternoon. I am seriously considering leaving a day early so I can join the slow group just so I can experience this particular track.

Bob, Mid Ohio is a very fun track with a variety different corners and challenges, of elevation changes. The track staff have been very helpful at creating a learning atmosphere, keeping everybody grouped to their skill level. Having fun and being safe. I've heard it said before and I would agree that's it a first class track. Well worth the added time and expense to the LCS trip.

Hope to see you there, any questions feel free to ask.

Matt,

In response to your question, here are my thoughts which are based purely on my observations and without any scientific research. Some owners just want to show their car (many because they are justifiably proud of their work, and a few who are fishing for trophies and compliments); some just want to cruise; some simply don't know about autocrossing/track days and don't know what they are missing; and, finally, there are the big HP fans who want to drag race or do burnouts or talk about how "mine is bigger than yours". One of the cool things about these cars is that we build them to our tastes, budgets and desires and to each his own.

However, IMHO, high-powered component cars (Cobras, Exocets, street rods, etc. etc.) are generally built by people, usually male, with disposable income. Nobody "needs" a 350-500-1000 hp, 2200-lb toy. So, here comes the "my eyes are bigger than my stomach" syndrome. Call it ego, or machismo, or "I gotta compensate for my small ....", whatever. Then, as Jeff Kleiner noted, they tell the engine builder, "I gotta have at least 500 hp!".

So yeah, I think that many of these builds are about ego. Personally, I went through the high-horsepower muscle car stage many years ago. Then I started racing Formula Vees in SCCA because I couldn't afford anything with more power than a 1200cc Beetle engine. Racing 60-hp cars with VW suspension and brakes teaches you to be smooth vs. brutal. That translates directly to autocrossing my Cobra with a mid-300 hp 347. I have to be smooth because the car has more than enough power! When the 500-hp guys come to an autocross, they are generally disappointed because their car is almost undriveable on a tight course and they have slower times than the guy in the Miata / Mini / Subaru. Their ego won't let them return ever again.

I can't speak to track days because I've never done one with my Cobra, although that will change this year and probably at the Mid-Ohio event before LCS. Maybe I'll have a different opinion then...

In the meantime, perhaps local Cobra clubs could do more to advertise autocrossing and the car handling skills that it develops. Offer schools that teach the right techniques without fear of embarrassment or competition. Maybe this could be a Thursday or Friday morning seminar before the autocross at LCS? I'd be happy to be involved if anyone thinks that's a good idea.

Thanks for considering my thoughts on the subject.

I had My Coyote tuned recently and they say it is putting 401 hp to the wheels and that’s plenty enough to get my attention, so I have great respect for this machine and desperately want to get some track experience and training. The thing is, I come from the aviation world and with professional training you purposely push the the limits of your aircraft to see what it’s capabilities are and how to avoid it’s deadly serious qualities at the edge of the envelope. You learn how to safely use all that you have and, more importantly, when not to use it. That’s what I need to know about this car and if I get a chance I will get some training before this event.

I’m up for the slow group too and I’ll just follow what Bob Cowan does:cool:...maybe.

I'm thinking about participating in one (or more) of these events on Friday (26th). However, not sure if each one is a full day event.
1. DAVE SEMKO COMMEMORATIVE HOCKING HILLS CRUISE (full day cruise?)
2. GARY OSBORNE COMMEMORATIVE AMISH COUNTRY CRUISE (full day cruise?)
3. WADE CHAMBERLAIN MEMORIAL AUTOCROSS (Is it worth it just to watch? Is there seats to view?)

Typically the cruises leave in the 8:00 - 9:00 AM range and return mid afternoon or so. Usually there's a stop for lunch. You always have the option of leaving the cruise and returning to the hotel if it's too long, hot, whatever. Not positive about the timing for the autocross, but see them back in the parking lot around the same time.

Just hanging on hoping the London show happens. We're all registered, room reserved, calendar cleared, etc. One of the high points of the year.

I sent them an email asking about it. Their reply was they are still planning on having it based on the local information regarding Covid 19. It is subject to change.

Having the driver door popping open on a right had turn does get you attention!
