View Full Version : How many posts are required in order to post in the classifieds?

I had trouble finding the moderators for the classifieds and I did not see a generic "questions about the message board" so excuse me if this is not posted in the correct place but...
I was at FFCars for 8 years and I am building a Roadster right now so how many posts do you have to have in order post in the classifieds?
I do find it kind of ironic that in the classifieds section that I am not allowed to post a new thread or reply to a thread but I am allowed to edit my posts???

There was talk about a 25 post minimum in order to post anything in the classified section. However, to the best of my knowledge, the classified section is still not open even with that minimum. The moderators are still working on the classified section and I am sure it will be open within the next few days.

We are working to get the classifieds up and running. There will be a minimum number of post before you can sale here, to cut down down on spammers. The number is being discussed now. in the other thread numbers from 25-100 were being discussed.
It will be up as soon as possible.

Minium posts is a good idea. Good way to kill the spam.

Any way to credit FFCars members so that we don't have to post misc posts just to run up post counts. If we have to do it, so will spammers so what's the point? Make it a high count and cross-reference the history from FFcars if need be.

I hope so, but I can see how that would be difficult to verify unless a mod on both boards PMs you at the other site to verify. Anyone could register a name that was quite prolific at the other site before the real person registers here. I averaged less than a post every other day for 7 1/2 years over at the other site and to my knowledge never received an infraction. Hopefully they can do something for those of us that do not pad their post count, not that there is anything wrong with that.

The R/C forum I am on requires 100 posts before you can sell anything, but you can buy anything right off the bat.
I know this is the "new" forum, but there's still a lot of people at FFcars, you could sell this stuff over there and not worry about your post count here and/or pad your count. Just be active and supportive member and the posts will come, and best of all, they'll mean something...

Doubtful that they would worry about something as trivial, if anything, it has been my experience that the folks at FFR hate to hear of kits unfinished, so a resale of an unfinished kit to a new builder is exactly what they want. Otherwise how does an unfinished car help them sell more? Answer, it doesn't. While a finished car and it's enthusiastic owner are more likely to sell kits for them.

I think corral.net is 25. There is a TON of new spam on the ffcars forum since the new owners took over, not sure why, but I'm all for the minimum post count. It not only keeps spam away, but I'm less likely to buy parts from someone who really isn't contributing much to the community, i'd rather just do ebay in that case.

With 100 min I may reach that by 2015
I've been a loyal FFR builder/owner since about 2000. I have FFR 1920. I posted some technical items during the build of my Mark2. Some postings were viewed as useful. Now I doubt the current relevance of my build details in view of the evolution of the FFR to Mark 4 levels so my post count is, and will be, low. I'm finding that I have a few (salable) items that are no longer needed and value "classifieds' as a resource to me (and a potential bargain to current builders). So..... given that I will not pad my postings with drivel, is there a way to resolve this apparent conflict?
I'm guessing that this "special need" is probably less import to the big picture than the need to counter potential spammers, but I am good customer and I am tempted to build an additional;
33 or,
a GTM or,
a WRX adapted super fly weight.
So moderators, please balance the objectives and keep, guys like me in your mind as you determine policy.
I'm not saying that the resolution of this "posting in classified" will influence my future purchase decisions, but I'm in sales and marketing myself and view alienation of my prospective customers as contrary to the general mission.
Best of luck with the new forum!

Like Bill said, there's still a ton of activity on the FFcars forum classifieds. I have an engine package I think I'm going to sell (project fell through) and even though I'm certain to have the required number of posts here in a couple of days, I'll put it in the classifieds at the other forum due to the higher (for now) traffic there. Better chance of selling it and I could use the cash right now!

If you are a "known" personality to the mods you MAY get away with creating a thread before you get to 25 posts. The mods have been instructed to delete threads of those who do not have 25 posts, and who are unknown to us.
This is an effort to be as flexible as we can while the site is still "spinning up". Please bear with us, and don't get too upset if you post your 1st here is a post to the classifieds and it goes away.

I just feel that if you indeed have an FFR you should be able to post. Most of the people that post and have 1 or very few post don't even have an FFR. Anthony, I think, based on my experience, that this isn't the issue. It's really trying to ward off the huge pain in moderating the classifieds section without some sort of "barrier of entry." I've seen it on other forums, and it really makes the section unusable. Plus, there's a community aspect to the whole thing. I want to be able to trust to whom I'm selling and from whom I'm buying. I've sent out parts before payment is seen if I can trust the person on the other side, but someone that had 2-3 posts (no offense personally to your current 3), my trust level is lower.
It's a slippery slope, I think, but worthwhile in the grand scheme of things.

I hear ya. It's just a moderation issue. There might be a way for the mods to "approve" a member after registration, I'm not sure. Automating it definitely makes it easier for those volunteering to help with the task.
That being said, it won't take very long to get the post counts up for most people contributing to discussions.

I suggest that whatever the number of posts are, someone can always pad the number of posts to be able to list items for sale, but from a buyers perspective it would be nice to be able to report our experience with sellers both good and bad. Those who put in the effort to do a better job and deliver what they promise should be able to bank on that. Those that do not deliver and refuse to make good on a transaction should not be allowed to continue to use the board.
pfarley11
07-10-2016, 01:52 PM
Agreed. The fact that I've posted so few times is a testament to how great this community is - I've never really had to ask questions. I've always been able to search through the posts to find the answers that I needed.(my Mk3 was 90% complete when purchased) Also, I don't really have the experience to answer others' questions . . . So, now I guess all I can do is pad my thread count if I want to post a classified. Let me know if anyone else has any suggestions, though.
Thanks!
