I also already have the Moog tie rods/balljoints with the Energy Suspension boots.
I have read and read and read many build threads and forum posts. I would be lost without the information already provided by members. Thank you so much for your information. I'm not a very inventive or creative person, but I can follow instructions. Besides the FFR Build Manual, I have two build threads printed out with handwritten notes everywhere.
My goal is to have a drive able car ready for Huntington Beach 2020. If I don't, I will be there in my bad *** Nissan Maxima.
The motor will be a 347 FI with Tremec 600. I have not made the decision yet if it will be Blue Print or Forte. I'm hoping to be able to order it in a few months. I will be going with the Kirkey Low Back Vintage 17" seats.
I am 6'6" tall and 270 lbs. I will be making a few modifications already described by others to allow me to fit into the car as comfortably as possible. I've always loved cars. My favorite past car is a 96 Chevy Impala that I put a lot of money into. I assisted a friend of mine with an engine pull and head/cam swap on it. I have done CV shafts, brake jobs, exhaust installs, drive axle replacement, header installs, rear main seal replacements, and a bit of automotive electrical work myself. I'm not a newbie, but I am definitely diving in a lot deeper in mechanical work that I have ever done with this car. My mechanical ability is that if I can see a good YouTube video of how something is done, I can probably do it myself.
Funds are certainly not unlimited, and I do need to keep to a budget. I can upgrade parts that are important to me, but not everything. If I didn't have alimony and child support to pay, it would be a different story.

I went with this axle cover because it was painted black. I liked the all black look. However, the paint was so cheap, that just breathing on it nearly removed it. So, I got a can of brake cleaner and presto-raw aluminum cover. I should have just gone with the Moser cover. It is already filled with axle lube and limited slip additive (I forgot how much that stuff stinks). Don't forget, the fill plug is on the side of the axle housing on the right side.

The first night was an inventory frenzy. I started with this.

It was about 1:30 in the morning and I was exhausted. I wanted to get all of the boxes inventoried. But I opened up the box containing the wiring harness and a lot of individual parts and realized that it was time to go to bed. I turned off my alarm clock and slept in late.

I made good progress this weekend. I took lots of photos of the tins before removal. I have the axle 90% installed and hopefully I did the front suspension correctly. Please take a look at the front A arms and let me know if you see any issues. I used the Moog upper ball joints. They went in without issue. I also use the Energy Suspension boots.
For the following two pictures. I had to shorten the adjusting sleeve per instructions I found on here. The solid side of the upper A arm would not collapse short enough to get the recommended 7.375" distance until I cut off one of the shoulders. Also, the ball joint triangles on each side are not oriented symmetrical. The base of the triangle on the driver's side is pointed "in" and on the passenger's side is pointed "out" toward the front of the car. Is this how it should be?
https://i413.photobucket.com/albums/pp213/tmartinlvnv/DSC03430.jpg (http://s413.photobucket.com/user/tmartinlvnv/media/DSC03430.jpg.html)

The Energy Suspension boot slips off of the ball joint when the suspension is at full droop. Is there a way to keep this attached throughout all movement?

Finally, the manual shows button head bolts attaching the steering arms. I cannot find any button head bolts that size. I did find four 12 point bolts with flanged nuts but they are too short.

Terry,
Post pictures of your ball joint plates, one of them is up-side-down (per your description). The ball joint "ring" should be facing out. Go here --> https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?23204-JDav-s-MK4-9028-Build-Thread&highlight=ball+joint+mount+plate+orientation post #20 by Jeff Kleiner.
Hope you didn't use any RED locktite during installation . . .

Terry,
Guess I was thinking that you had one ball joint plate up-side-down but they are installed correctly from the latest pictures. I was thinking you were saying that one ball joint stud was pointing in and the other outward . . . But to get back to your original question, after reading it again, yes, that is normal and will change once you get the front end aligned. Right now you are working with a full droop condition and setting things to a somewhat "generic" alignment. Once you have the car on the ground, things will sit differently. This "not symmetric" issue is mostly caused by the fact that the ball joint plates are universal and one will have the welded lug forward, the other rearward - perfectly normal.
That being said . . . Damn man, you are moving right along at a blinding pace. You'll be at "roller stage" really soon. Don't go sooo fast as to where you are "skipping" ahead with some parts of the build only to have to disassemble stuff later cuz its in the way of another part of the build. It's like chess - think ahead a few moves to see where you are and how it will effect what's next.
You are marking every bolt that you have torqued, right? Nothing worse than having to second guess yourself.
Doc
TMartinLVNV
08-13-2019, 09:22 PM
Ok, that is good to hear. The plates not being symmetrical was really bothering me. It just seemed weird. I have learned one big lesson. Only work on one system at a time, or keep your hardware completely separate if working on two systems. I got hung up on missing spacers for the front shocks (found them in box 21 when they were supposed to be in box 3) and I started working with the rear axle install. I got some of the hardware mixed up and used the bolts for the steering arms on something else. All fixed now.
Yes, I have a yellow paint pen that I'm marking the bolt head with when torqued. When I have something that I'm worried about turning in place when it should not (ball joint), I mark the edge and part it is screwed into.

Your ball joint installation is correct as mentioned. The UCA configuration (fixed end on the front on one side, on the back on the other) you're concerned about is normal and works fine. The Energy Suspension upper ball joint boots don't attach to anything. They fit around the ball joint and UCA and when at ride height everything closes up just fine. But I'm a little unsure about what you pictured. This is the front suspension with the Energy Suspension 5.13102G boots. They only come as a set of four, but fortunately not expensive. The uppers that you use are the smaller pair provided. Yours don't seem to be fitting like this.

Ed thank you. A picture is worth a thousand words. I had put the ES boots on the tie rods even before the car arrived. I thought that I had done the ball joints too. I had actually ordered two sets of the boots because I though that each box was good for only one side. I just swapped out the ball joint boots for real this time and it works great.

Good day today and made a lot of progress. Although, it was 109 degrees!

Now is the time to run the brake and fuel lines. I did my brake lines before I riveted anything in place. We were able to rotate the frame on the chassis dolly so it was standing on it's side. Made it a lot easier. 109 degrees. That makes for some sweat in the eyes for sure. You're doing awesome.

Hey Terry... a thought for you at this point in your build that will make life a lot easier later in your build. This LINK (https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?19175-Steering-Rack-Install-Setup-Procedure) is to a form entry that shows how to properly "center" your steering rack to the frame of the car. Hint, it's not just turning left to right and finding the center with your steering wheel. Check it out. What I did after I found the true center was I put a little black paint on the input shaft of the rack and on the bearing boss next to it and then I scribe a line in to the black so that anytime I need, I can turn my wheel and put the rack to dead center. This was especially handy later when it was time to do the alignment. Hope this helps.

Thank you Karl. I had not seen that post before. This is what is so great about this forum! I was planning on doing the centering the way the FFR video shows. Now it seems like the "kindergarten" way of doing it.
As soon as I get my steering boss back from Russ Thompson, I will install my steering wheel and give it a go! Russ should be getting it today and I know that he turns them around very quickly.

Today I started at 8 and called it quits at 1:00. It started to get too hot. A little bit of frustration occurred. I was cutting the firewall for the heater. I bought the FFMetal firewall forward kit. The template for the heater has you mount it 2" from the bottom of the firewall. Cool, drill, cut, looks good. Except, the FFMetal firewall has a 90 degree bend and mounts on the horizontal part of the frame tube. The FFR firewall, for which the template was made, mounts to the vertical portion of the frame tube and is taller. So, the holes I just cut ruined the FFMetal part because I had inadvertently mounted the heater too high. After a few bad words, I pitched the beautiful FFMetal hunk of aluminum in the recycling bin and drug out the stock firewall. Moving forward....
I got most of the passenger side tins premounted and drilled.

You do not need the steering wheel for this part.... all you are doing is finding the dead center of the rack. If you mark it in some fashion, you will be able to go back to center each and every time as needed.
Sorry to hear about your firewall.

I had time today to get a lot of work done on the Roadster. I'm running into dead ends with parts on POL. I am waiting on the pedal switches to arrive so I cannot do much in that area. I did get all of the flex brake lines installed.

A painter I am not. This is Duplicolor bed liner spray. I used it on my Jeep's steel bumpers and it has held up great. However, on aluminum, it is dissapointly easy to scratch off. Papa mentioned the same thing in his build. I even roughed up the surface and primed it.

I decided that it was time to take a hike in some local hills near my house. After 4 miles in 100 degrees, it was time to go home. I got into my Jeep and the day kinda went to hell. I tried to start it and just got a click. Ok, let me hook up my battery jump starter. Click. Crap. Boost button on my jump starter, waiting for a few minutes with it connected, no luck. I then walked an additional 2 miles home and luckily my neighbor with a 4WD was home. He brought me out and we tried his jump starter, then jumper cables. All with the same results.

Fortunately, I was 2 miles from home and not 50 miles in the desert. A trip to Auto Zone and the battery checks out OK. I then picked up a new starter motor. Since it was 107 outside, I waited until just before dark to let the asphalt to get down to 120 degrees before I got under the Jeep to swap the starter out. It took only 30 minutes and problem solved. I think that everything on the Roadster went so smoothly this morning that the car gods decided to punish me.
I started putting together the E-brake.

I know that this can be a troublesome area and I called it quits for the night. I'm going to do some reading here on the E-brake modifications. I already have the pulleys that EdwardB recommends. Tomorrow I will start anew with a fresh mental state.

Yesterday and early this morning, I worked on a few areas. I test fit the parking brake handle and will need to elongate the mount slots to get it to clear the tunnel. I then took the bare metal handle pieces along with the trunk hinges to be powder coated. These should be my last items to be coated. Once they are finished, I will working on getting the parking brake installed and working.
I got the Wilwood pedal assembly all together. I'm hoping the switches will be here on Thurs so that I can get it installed.

I test fit the drivers footbox panels. I am very surprised with how roomy they are. FFR has already created pop outs on each side. I don't think I will need to make any modifications width wise for my feet. Length wise, I won't know until the pedals are installed.

A bit of progress today. I got the last of my parts back from the powder coating. The parking brake was really a pain in the rear to install. I had to elongate laterally the mounting holes and reverse the hardware in order to get the handle to minimally contact the side of the center console. I would like to move the handle a little bit further away buy am out of ideas.

I have the Wilwood pedal assembly installed. I had to assemble, take apart, then reassemble to get it all right. I'm still waiting on the clutch and brake switches to arrive.

As with many others, my clutch pedal arm contacts the 3/4" tube before going all the way to the footbox wall. I'm considering notching the arm to allow me to push it forward one extra inch. At 6'6", I need all of the room I can get.

Part of my POL arrived today. Most importantly, my brake and clutch pedal switches arrived. Now I can finish up that area. My 302 headers were part of this shipment. It looks like FF is sending out the new style adjustable headers and they have O2 brings already welded in. This was a very pleasant surprise.
I'm going to be in the garage tonight.

The last few days have been very productive. It has been just over 3 weeks since the car was delivered. I took last week off of work and was able to spend a lot of time in the garage. I'm back to work tomorrow, so things will be slowing down a bit. My brake and clutches switches arrived and are installed now. All of my fuel lines and regulator for EFI are still POL and this is holding me up. I am waiting on the dual remote reservoir from Scott's Hotrods 'N Customs to arrive (should be Tues). As soon as it gets here I will fab up a mount and hook up the master cylinders. On Fri, I will be renting a car trailer from U-Haul to bring my rolling chassis to a friend's shop so that he can run stainless brake lines.
I have most of the wiring harness in place. At 11:30 this morning, it already hit 100 degrees in the shade so I'm calling it quits as I felt that I was at a good stopping point. Tonight I'm going night 4 wheeling with some friends as a well deserved break is in order.

Ever since I have installed the gas tank, for some reason, every single person who has walked into the garage has asked how big tank is. I'm not sure why they want to know that, but I put a post it note on it. I don't even know if it is the right amount.

I am back to work on the roadster. A friend of mine owns a hydraulic line shop and he made me up some super fancy brake lines. I have not seen this on here before. I'm replacing the outer Wilwood (not DOT certified, but are fine otherwise) and all brake lines with stainless steel braided ones. He can make them in multiple colors and put any fitting on them.
This is a comparison of the outer lines with the Wilwood lines.

David, I haven't seen anyone write a great review of the MT tires. Several variety of the Nittos seem to be popular here. The MTs are pretty cheap. I planned to break in the car with these and then pick one of the Nittos. But who knows! Maybe these will be good.

RE: The M/T tires---While instructing a novice autocross school I drove a student's Camaro equipped with a set. They definitely weren't doing the car any favors but should make for a decent street cruiser tire as long as you understand their limitations. I ran Kumho XS for a couple of years and they're not in the same league.
Terry,
You're moving right along! I've never seen anyone use flex line for the entire braking system. Have you bled it yet and if so do you have a firm hard pedal? I have to wonder if the minute amount of swelling that occurs in even high pressure flex hose compounded over the whole length might result in a bit of a soft pedal. Curious to see what you've found.
Keep moving!

This morning was an expensive one. I decided to place my order for the motor. What the hell, it is only money. I've become quite accustomed to eating a bowl of Cheerios for dinner :)
After a lot of thought, I decided to go with Mike Forte. The deciding factor was that his price was virtually identical to BP but you get a new Dart block and the "Cobra" valve covers and air cleaner cover standard.
I ordered his 347 package. The main specs are:
Dart block
Edelbrock air gap intake manifold
Edelbrock E-Street heads
Power steering
Holley Sniper EFI
TKO 600 with .64 OD
Quicktime bell housing
Forte now offers to modify your motor mounts to fit the Dart block for a small fee. On a very similar build, his engine put out 438 hp and 415 ft lbs.

Thanks, Jeff. I read a few reviews on the M/T and they don't sound to be as grippy as the Kumhos. I'm leaning towards Nitto NT555 G2. I haven't autocrossed my car yet (just 13k miles of street smiles!), but I like the grip I get with the Kumhos and want to keep the autocross option available in the future!
I was also wondering about how well the the all-flex line brake system will feel. I look forward to hearing Terry's results!

Terry,
Just a reminder to "insulate" everywhere your brake lines travel over an aluminum edge or go around an "outside" corner (steel or other-wise) . . . vibration is the worlds best "buzz saw" and will eventually cut thru anything, including high pressure brake lines.
A simple [split] rubber hose section or split loom used for electrical circuits will do wonders for protection. In the long runs, you might consider additional clamps for support.

Good ideas Doc. For the left side of the frame run, I spread the clamps out just far enough so that the lines won't sag. Do you think I need more there? I don't know if over the long term they will become less stiff. I am planning on putting one more along the front cross member in the middle. Right now I only have one at each end. When I put on the "P" clamps with the hose installed, after riveting it in place, I folded the loop part over the rivet. This made the lines stand off from the frame about 1/4" and I thought it looked a bit more "clean" when installed that way. If I have any line that goes around an edge of aluminum, I usually get a section of hose, cut down one side, and fit it over that edge. If it moves around, I put double sided foamy tape to hold it in place. I already have this issue with the main harness where is goes between the steering column and firewall.
I started working on the dash today. I found the planning process to be a lot of fun although detailed work. I have all the extra holes cut, the vinyl/foam installed, and the gauge holes in the vinyl cut out. It is all being compressed by weights on my counter top until the glue has permanently set as I type this.

Quite a bit of progress but not without some frustration. A POL box arrived. I was hoping for my fuel pressure regulator and EFI fuel lines. But the only thing in the box was the radiator. I got my brakes bled. That was quite a job. I did not do a bench bleed like so many others recommended. I just did them normally with both a buddy and his right foot and with a vacuum bleeder. It took a LOT of effort to get all of the air out of the system. I think I went through about a liter of brake fluid before I got a nice and firm pedal. A few fittings leaked until I snugged them up just a little more. Maybe it would have been easier if I did do the bench bleed?
Several people were curious as to how the pedal feels with my all flexible lines system. Here is my description. I'm not a car or brake system expert. The pedal is definitely firmer than my Nissan Maxima or my Jeep. The pedal moves about 1" with little resistance and then feels like it hits a wall. If I want it to go down further, I really have to mash it and the I can only get about 1/2" more pedal travel. So you guys tell me. Does that sound like the lines are expanding and causing a "mushy" feeling? I don't know, but it feels pretty darn good to me.
Trunk side walls in place. The little triangles were missing from my shipment. I did not see them mentioned on my parts list. I looked at my pics I took of the car before disassembly, and they were not there either. I emailed F5 and they sent them out right away no questions asked. I was eager to move forward so I put my trunk covers on. I will have to run my fuel lines while on my back and on my creeper under the car.

I was able to work on my dash some more. I'm still waiting on my switch labels to arrive from Carolina Laser (should be here on Mon). I got the switch guards from Perihelion designs. The empty hole is for my heater control knob. I did not like the speedo hiding behind the steering wheel on the left side. As a street car I felt that it was more important to have in view than the tach. With the tach on the left side, I can still see the sweep from about 4000 rpms and up where it is important. I'm going to start working on the wiring for the gauges next. The toggle next to the ignition is for the hazard lights. The toggle on the left side of the dash is for the hi/lo beams. I have the RF turn signal. Do you think that the hi/lo beam switch will interfere with the body or will be difficult to activate?

Terry, my Roadster was on the truck and delivered just before yours. The Stewart driver was using the crane system for the first time and things got a little hairy here and there. The poor guy had to experience Southeast Missouri humidity (7:30 in the morning and soaked to the skin) and then he had to go to Vegas. But it's dry heat!
We are in very similar places in the progress of the build. I lag behind a bit as I am having my aluminum panels powder coated so I assemble, drill, cleco, disassemble and take to the powder coater then restart assembly. I too have had system holdups due to the POL list but such is life. I just got back from a business trip today and there was another box from FFR on the porch. I have also ordered similar Breeze items with the battery box going in this weekend (along with the gas tank and some more aluminum). Also adding the cubby behind the seats for a little extra room. Going to powder coat the trunk / cubby area in black so it is not as noticable from outside the car. I am looking at the dual remote reservoir from Scotts and thank you for that lead.
What did you do for a motor / trans? I went to the Mott build school and Johnny from Blueprint engines was there and made his pitch and I went with their stroked 302 out to 347 c.i. with the TKO 600 trans and Holly EFI. Engine came in a few weeks back and the dyno card shows 440 horses and 450 ft/lbs torque. I would normally build my own engine but this is made with class components AND it has 3 year warrenty. I ran the numbers and they built it for what I would have paid for the parts and machining. Kind of a no brainer.
I plan to follow your build progress since your roadster shared the ride from Mass with mine. Best of luck Terry. Looks like you are off to a good start.

Hey David. Bob in SoCal was the delivery after mine. That makes us triplets! We were all birthed from the same truck :D. The driver seemed to know what he was doing when he arrived here. Everything went smoothly.
I like the Scott's reservoir a lot. I do wish that held more brake fluid than a shot glass worth though. It comes with two holes in the bottom and two holes in the back. I used the back holes with a 90 degree elbow to hide the fitting. The other two holes needed plugs. You will have to purchase two plugs and two fittings. Papa on here turned me on to the Scott's option.
I ordered the Forte 347 motor with the TKO 600 and Holley EFI a few weeks ago. Blueprint was my second choice. I asked a lot of questions on here and decided on the Forte based on the new Dart block with 4 bolt splayed bearing caps. It will have Edelbrock E-Street heads and Air Gap manifold. On a very similar build he did, the numbers were 436 hp and 406 ft lbs I think. I also liked that the "Ford Cobra" intake cover and valve covers were already included. The BluePrint seems to be a fine option too.
The wiring behind the dash has really held me up. I feel like it has put me back two weeks. As I said on another post, my cro-magnon brain just doesn't do electrons. I understand pistons, compression, rings, and rockers just fine. BigBlocker on here is coming over to my house on Thurs to bail me out and get the electrical all finished up.

I visited Terry last week, it was a pleasure meeting you. I guess being the third triplet is why I'm a month behind you two with my build. Now that CNC closed shop the remote reservoir seems to be an issue. I will be picking up a Jamar triple billet reservoir from Kartek today.

Looks great Terry. Glad those flex brake lines are working out for you. Just an observation on the dash. Did you look to see where your dash screws are going to be located once the body is on? Not sure if you planned for a removable dash, but if so, might be something to look into. If not, then disregard my post. ;)
TMartinLVNV

I did not. I tucked my dash up as high as possible with the body on. After the weatherstripping is put on, I think the body will sit a tad higher. My guess is that the screws will be obscured. I had not planned on making the dash removable. Is that a big deal? I was hoping to finish the wiring and never having to look at it again

A couple of updates. I ordered a few parts from Mike Everson including the vinyl shifter boot and RT turn signal bezel for the dash. I also talked to Forte. For just a few extra $$ he will have the trans/motor assembled instead of shipping it out in separate pieces. I figured that is one less thing for me to screw up. Money well spent IMHO. He already has the Dart block delivered to his shop and he expects to start the assembly early next week. vroom! vroom!

I'm back at work and finally making forward progress again. Thanks to everyone for the encouraging words.
Last night, Big Blocker and Jack came over to help out and drink my beer :D They helped me out a lot. It was a bit like a college physics professor explaining to a 5 year old how a black hole works, but I think they finally got through to me. Also, I called F5 this morning and got some more of other wiring issues worked out.
First of all, disregard this picture in the wiring manual. It is wrong. It has the two lamp wires going into the gauge feed spade. The two lamp wires should be going into where the picture shows the brown (gauge feed) wires. That socket is curiously labeled "Lamp". So the lamp wires should go onto the "lamp" spade. Even that makes sense to me
https://i413.photobucket.com/albums/pp213/tmartinlvnv/20190929_081852.jpg (http://s413.photobucket.com/user/tmartinlvnv/media/20190929_081852.jpg.html)
On page 56 of the Jan 2018 revision of the RF manual, it has you make a daisy chain of red wires from one of the gauge feed wires. The two longer connections are not needed. There are actually two brown gauge feed wires in the harness. One for the speedo/tach and one for the 5 small gauges. This caused me many hours of grief and head scratching.
I have my trunk/under dash LEDs all hooked up to a HAAT toggle switch. I was originally going to hook them up to my keyed on fuse box, but decided to do it this way so that if I need the lights to look for something but don't have my keys with me, I can just flip the switch. I will have to be careful not to leave them on with the ignition off. The black carpet in the footwells will absorb a lot of the red glow. I also used the red bulb covers in the gauges.

Today was very productive. I think I have all of the wiring done until the motor is installed. It feels really good to have that behind me. My aux fuse box is working perfectly. Since I'm not installing a stereo, I'm using the keyed on radio power to trigger the relay to power the fuse box. I'm still waiting for my fuel lines and regulator for FI on my POL.
I worked on the radiator today. I purchased the shroud, upper hinged mount, and lower mount from Breeze. Everything fit perfectly. I had the parts powder coated. I got the fan, shroud, and upper mount installed tonight. It is 9:00 at night and I'm tired. So this is a good place to stop and grab a beer and turn on Netflix. I'll get the lower mount done later.

Today was seat heater install day. This job was pretty easy. The seats are Kirkey 17" Vintage. I ran the power wires up to my aux fuse box. I plan to mount the relays to the rear wall behind the seat.

I removed the bottom foam and glued the heaters to the underside of the seat cover. The back heater was trimmed a few inches and the bottom heater was trimmed in half.

Next I installed new foam over the bottom heater and added foam to the rear heater.

Finally, I ran the wires out through an existing hole.

Only the switch is installed on the dash for now. I'm going to wait until after I get through the go cart phase to install the actual module. I want to make sure everything is working on the car before adding it.

I went with the mild steel pipes from FFR. I actually like them loud. Not sure how the neighbors are going to feel about that though. Anyway, I just got them back from coating. I was originally going to have them ceramic coated. When I was picking up some other parts from the powder coater, I talked to him about it. He said that he has a special high temp (800 degrees) powder coating and he guarantees that it will hold up. So, I gave it a shot. I really like the textured look.
I think that I'm going to leave the headers uncoated for now. They are the F5 stainless ones.

Terry,
You should be fine, hottest point on the side pipes is the bends just after it leaves the body cutout - about 400°f at a standing idle. That improves a bit at speed due to air flow.
Pipes came out real nice . . .

I hope so. But some POL items will hold me up. I'm still waiting for my fuel pressure regulator, EFI lines, and coolant expansion tank from F5. I'm starting to get a little frustrated. I can order all of these parts from Summit and have them at my house in 2 days. It has been almost 3 months since our completion date
I have not called Mike to get an update for a while. I hate to bug the guy. The last time I talked to him, the block arrived at his shop and he was going to start the build on the following Mon which was two weeks ago. He originally told me about 6 weeks from the order date. I think we are about 4 or 5 weeks in now. So, hopefully it will be pretty soon.

Yes he used his pallet jack. It took three of us to push it up the driveway, and it’s not steep, 950#. He used the jack to get the pallet on top of two furniture dolly’s.

I have done very little lately. I contacted F5 about some of my POL items. They responded very quickly and got a few of them that I really need (EFI regulator and fuel lines) of them on the way. Apparently the coolant over flow tank is what was holding things up and they are expecting them to arrive at their shop soon. Thanks F5!
I also contacted Forte about the progress of my motor. Things are moving along fine and Mike sent me a sneak peek of it. He said that mine is next to go on the dyno!

Nice job on the bed liner, looks professional . . .
If Miller is doing your paint right away, let him do the scoop. If you are planing on driving in gel coat for a bit, and want that look, go ahead and mount it. I don't need to tell you that the hood is not symmetric with the body and you need to measure very carefully if you want it centered - a chalk line is your best friend.
I'd get the hinges mounted but not fine adjusted until you have the body set on the frame and centered - the hood centers to the opening but the body could be off to one side or the other until final install.

F5 sent my EFI fuel lines and regulator earlier this week, so today I installed them. It was a pretty easy job. I would have liked to run the lines along the right side frame. But the F5 EFI instructions say to run them in the trans tunnel. Plus, they would have been way too short to run them along the frame.

I am still waiting on my motor. It has been quite some time and I still don't have a shipping date. I'm trying my best to be patient. To get ready for it, I've been doing some research with the Holley Sniper EFI. They recommend 3/8" fuel lines both send and receive. The F5 EFI "upgrade" is definitely not up to this task. It was an option that I wish I had not purchased. The only part that I am now using is the fuel pump. The rest is wasted money. I would have been far better off just piecing the fuel system together on my own. Anyway. Here are some comparison photos of the F5 EFI hanger and a true upgrade.
https://i413.photobucket.com/albums/pp213/tmartinlvnv/DSC03540.jpg (http://s413.photobucket.com/user/tmartinlvnv/media/DSC03540.jpg.html)

I pulled out all of the fuel lines and replaced them with true stainless braided 3/8" line. I also removed the regulator since the Holley Sniper takes care of this on its own. I also ordered the kit from Whitby Motors to fill in the area between the dash and the trans tunnel. I put in the vents, Autometer clock, and the seat heater switches. I had to extend the switch wires to reach all the way up here. It is just loosely sitting in place now since it cannot be installed until after the trans tunnel is in place. Does anyone have a source for the dash covering vinyl? I do not see any on the F5 website.

Terry,
If your more than generous suppliers don't come thru, any of the larger boat shops on Lake Mead Dr or any auto upholstery shop in town should be able to fill your vinyl order. As a last resort, most of the fabric shops can get you industrial grade vinyl but there might be a waiting period since they don't usually deal in automotive stuff. There are also suppliers on-line . . .

Hi Terry - just read through your whole build thread - awesome job! Can't believe how fast you're moving! I think it took two years for me to complete my build.
I'd love to come over and check out your build - I just recently moved to Las Vegas from Washington state and would like to meet up with the local factory five owners. Jack is close to me, but we haven't met up just yet. What part of town do you live in? I'm up in the NW in Centennial Hills. Maybe we can meet up after Thanksgiving? Feel free to PM me, rather than hijack your build thread. Perhaps schedule a breakfast for all the F5 owners?

Hey Howard. I've met with Jack several times and a few others here. We have everything from fully completed builds with a lot of miles to people who are waiting for the big blue and red truck to deliver their 25th anniversary kit. Several of the guys meet every Sat morning at 700 in the morning at Twin Peaks on S. Eastern. I get there everyone once in a while.

Weather is beautiful up here in the NE. It’s 49 and sunny here and has yet to snow so there should be no delays in shipping. I know it’s not Vegas weather which by the way I have been enjoying as I have a new client there I see every month. My other client is in Key West so I am lucky.

good luck,
I'm glad you suggested this. I went into the garage and tried to manually move the linkage. I can only get it to move a small amount. The 4 throttle blades all open about 10% and stop. I can hear a metallic sounding tick noise like one of the blades it hitting something underneath. I did not use much effort at all so that I didn't force anything. The outer mechanism looks undamaged to me. But I'm certainly no expert. I'll post a pic of the outside.

I talked to Mike Forte this morning. He has a new air cleaner on the way. Great customer service. He is just as frustrated at the shipping company as I am. The crate that he makes out of 4x3s is pretty damn stout. It took serious effort to break it.

Forte puts the plate in there to keep dust out of the intake during shipping. It is a complete block off. In my case, it really saved me a lot of work as a debris had fallen into the throttle body after the air cleaner housing was crushed. I found some instructions included with my stack of paperwork stating to remove it before first start.
I've never heard of the Sniper "whistle". Sounds like a poor mans supercharger!

Thanks Mike. We had a fun afternoon. I haven't been able to work on the car since Sat but was able to get most of the EFI hooked up. I just posted a few questions to see if I did it right. This upcoming weekend will be totally dedicated to the Roadster.
Next weekend's tasks will be to trim the lower radiator hose per Big Blocker's suggestion, connect oil pressure sender, install hydraulic clutch, finish up trunk carpet, trim and connect fuel lines to the Holley Sniper, fix any wiring issues, fill up transmission with fluid, install new air cleaner, fill up radiator, connect power steering lines, and then install driveshaft.
Then........maybe first start?

What you may find on the sniper is that the throttle is REALLY sensitive, especially with a manual transmission. Reason for this is the throttle arm is fairly short and all four blades open at once. There is a progressive linkage that will tame it down or you can fabricate or buy an extension. I prefer the extension, never could get the progressive linkage to work correctly.

Good point on the throttle sensitivity. I got both of those modifications from EFI system pro. The progressive linkage change also requires a software update on the sniper programming.

Yep, updated and set all the correct setting but for whatever reason my combo just didn't like the progressive. Chris is awesome, good resource for Sniper knowledge.

Progress continues up to first start. I have the Forte hydraulic clutch all hooked up. It was really easy to bleed and get full of brake fluid. I was originally going with a cable clutch and didn't know that Forte's motor was going to come with this setup. So, I had already purchased the dual reservoir for the the brake system. For right now, I just used the Wilwood provided remote reservoir. I may change it out for something more elegant later. I might use the F5 single brake fluid reservoir for this later on. The operation of the clutch is really nice and smooth.

Next up is the power steering hookup. I'm waiting for an AN to NPT adapter to arrive. One of the two there were supplied by F5 with their power steering kit did not fit. On the power steering rack, one port is larger than the other. I got two adapters that are for the larger port.
First start is scheduled for this weekend! I'm checking to see if my homeowners insurance covers burning down the house by crazy guy building a car in his garage.

Today it finally happened. I got the usual posse over to cheer me on and assist. The engine fired up with almost no issues. I changed out the regular worm gear clamps for the coolant lines for T-Bolt clamps. On one fitting, I used a size too big and didn't realize that I had bottomed out the threads and it was not clamping enough. As soon as the thermostat opened, well, it made a mess
All is good, Rich changed out the clamp, I mopped everything up and refilled the coolant and it is all sealed up now.
The audio is terrible in this video, but it is the first start.

I was just catching up on your build thread and saw all the pictures of the damaged crate! Wow! I would have let it stay on the truck; too much money involved to accept it in that condition. Looks like you made out okay in the end, though. Nice work.

I did a first drive and have let the motor run for a bit. All of the header tubes are a golden color except for cylinder #6 is a dark blue. With the throttle body injection, each cylinder should be getting roughly the same air/fuel ratio. Any ideas or is this something I should even be concerned about? When the motor was idling after first start, Big Blocker measured the temp of each tube and they were all very close to each other.

It was disappointing what happened to it in shipping. Mike Forte builds a crate from 4x3s around the whole thing. He said that he has had the shipping drop a motor off the back of a truck before too. He does his part by protecting it well. It is a good motor and running well, Mike sent me a new air cleaner, so all is well.

I took it out on the street today for the first time. It ran really well. I got a little driveline vibration but I have not set the angle yet. It tracks very straight which is really good for my eyeball alignment. For those of you in the north, yes, i'm wearing shorts on Jan 4th.
Now I have to address another coolant leak, a fuel leak at the filter, and a power steering leak at the rack
Brakes work just fine. I got on them about medium level once and I locked up the fronts at slow speed.

Bill, do it! I've never attempted something like this before. Before this project, I could change shocks, struts, do minor electrical work, brake jobs, change radiators, etc. I've learned so much. With any problems, the answer is here. Whether in the archives or by asking questions, you will find an answer if you get stuck.

A few more things done today.
Trunk carpeted. I added some carpet to the side and front walls as well as in the drop trunk. Matching carpet was really cheap at my local automotive upholstery store.

Big feet like little pedals in this car. In this photo it looks like the accel pedal is further back than the brake. It is actually closer to the firewall by about an inch.

Metco Driveshaft safety loop installed. You can never be too safe while go-carting around the neighborhood. ;) Two of the bolts are too short for my liking. They are 1.25" long and barely engage the threads on the locking nut (even without the washers). I'm going by Ace to get some 2" ones so that I can use the washers and pass completely through the nut.

Today was mostly interior. Center console finished up. My right seat heater will only turn on high. I get no light at all when on low. I took it out for another drive today. The fuel leak at the filter seems to be fixed. I still dripped a little coolant at the same spot. The connection from the water pump inlet to the Boig pipe is driving me nuts. I re positioned the clamp and will try again tomorrow. I'm still leaking power steering fluid. I'm pretty sure that it is the adapter from the return line on the rack. I took it off, cleaned it up, re applied the liquid sealant on the NPT thread side and re installed. Ride height is set. I did 4 1/2" up front and 5" in the back. I added an extra 1/2" since the body is not on. I know I will have to readjust it after some miles.

Working on a few odds and ends. I'm planning on installing the body on Fri. I am going to put off the cruise control and heater hookup for now. I want to drive the car as much as possible, then pull the body, fix anything, hook up the cruise control and heater, and then drive it to the painter.
I cleaned up a bit of wiring and messed with the driveshaft/pinion angle. BigBlocker talked me through the process and I think I finally have it right. I had to use two of the spacers from Forte and expressed a few bad words while on my back under the car.
Starting point. Angle at the rear u-joint is way off.

Side pipes are back on. That was a LOT of work. I'm sure it is easier with the adjustable headers, but my arms are exhausted. I had to open up the driver's side opening just a little forward. I had to open up the passenger's side opening a lot toward the rear and up. Turning those self locking distorted nuts on the ball and socket flange while sticking arms through the side vent holes and under the body is exhausting. Especially when a ratchet won't fit!

I have all of the lights connected. The blinkers are not working right and I'm still working on that. The running and headlights are good to go! I also installed the quickjacks. I already ran into one of them with my shin. It hurt so good :p
https://i413.photobucket.com/albums/pp213/tmartinlvnv/20200115_171440.jpg (http://s413.photobucket.com/user/tmartinlvnv/media/20200115_171440.jpg.html)

Rear quickjacks installed with threaded rod and coupler. I put a regular nut on the rod next to the coupler so that I could "double nut" it and stop the rod from spinning as I was tightening the nylock nut on the end.

Finally, the lower Boig coolpipe was unsupported. So I purchased this from Breeze which is designed for the corrugated F5 hose. I had to get some spacers from Ace and it works well.

I also purchased the Breeze power steering rack fittings. They seemed to thread in nice and tight. I will take it out for a spin tomorrow to see if I have finally fixed my power steering fluid leak problem.
Edit - No more power steering leaks!

I made the decision to move up my schedule for body work and paint. I really don't want to mess anything up doing any more bodywork myself. I called Miller and I might be able to get my car into his shop in about 6 weeks. This means that I won't be able to take my car to Huntington. But, I can get over that. He said 8-12 weeks for him go do his magic.
I'm going to continue to work on a few mechanical items but don't have much left.
My garage is trashed and my other two vehicles have been neglected since August. I usually wash and detail them in my driveway about every two weeks. It has been only drive through car washes for a while now. I can get some 4 wheeling in and much needed cleaning done while I wait. I also haven't been shooting in a while and I'm itching to get back to the range.
I will have to free up some funds as I'm doing this much earlier than planned. I need to lose some weight anyway :p.

I have a few minor mechanical issues to address. The engine stumbles and stalls sometimes when I put the clutch in. Especially when pulling up to a stop sign. I talked to a guy at Forte's shop and it should be an easy fix of adjusting the clutch out just a bit as it may not be fully disengaging.
I have to move everything out of my garage and give it a total cleaning. Then I'll clean up my cars, clean up the Roadster, and get a cover for it to keep the dust off. Las Vegas is horrible for dust.

As for the stumbling when you put the clutch in, that's more than likely a Sniper issue but still verify your clutch. It takes time for the Sniper to learn your engines needs. If it still does it after a few hours of drive time, adjust the IAC Rampdown settings. Go ahead and get the laptop cable and download the Sniper software from Holley, WAY more tunables in the app! Great work BTW!

Terry,
What rpm did you set the idle at? I initially set it at 650, but the car would almost die every time I came to a stop. I ended up bumping my idle up to 900 rpm and don't have that issue anymore. I'd like to bring it down a bit and will let the tuner work on it when I eventually get the car to him to dial it in.

The IAC ramp setting will fix that, see above screenshot. And your IAC needs to be between 2-10% at idle.

I'll definitely play with this. I will say that the Sniper certainly likes it when the car is driven in typical conditions vs. the start up, idle, move the car into the shop, shut the car off scenario.

Holley does a crap job of marketing the Sniper as "self-learning" and "set and forget", which is BS. Once you get the IAC, ramp, Fuel map, and cold start enrichment right it works as well as a modern car. I have one on my Camaro and absolutely love it.

Thanks Brad. The guy at Forte said to drive it again and instead of just putting in the clutch while coming to a stop, put the tranny in neutral. He said that if it stops stumbling, then the clutch needs to be adjust out. I'm going to give that a try today.

That's kinda funny. I did the opposite of what you did. I had it at about 950. After talking with Forte's guy, I bumped it down to 750. When starting it up and idling in the garage in neutral, it purrs like a kitten with a nice lope to it (oil pressure is 40 when fully warmed up at idle). I have the issue both at 900 and 750. Today is the first day of my weekend, so I have time to work on it for the next few days.

Thanks Brad. The guy at Forte said to drive it again and instead of just putting in the clutch while coming to a stop, put the tranny in neutral. He said that if it stops stumbling, then the clutch needs to be adjust out. I'm going to give that a try today.
I thought about a learning mode for the Sniper. I have 16 miles on the motor now. Mostly just putzing around the neighborhood and moderate throttle. I'll remember your suggestion. Messing with the software scares the hell outta me though! I have a cheap netbook. I don't know if that will be enough computer to run the software. Can I do it on my desktop and transfer the update via microSD card?
The software doesn't take much resources, any old laptop should do. You can transfer to SD-card if you need to.

I put the Roadster back up on jack stands (I really wish my garage was taller so that I could have a lift) and adjusted the clutch at the transmission. I turned the adjuster rod out 3 revolutions and hooked everything back up. While it was still on jackstands, I fired up the beast and did some testing. I put it in gear and let the rear tires spin, then pressed in the clutch and left the shifter in gear. The tires came to a stop in just a few seconds. I fell that this means the clutch is fully disengaging with the pedal all the way in. I actually got the rear tires to stop turning with the clutch pedal 1" from fully pressed in. I wish I would have done this before making the adjustment. I'm learning.
Anyway, I took it out for a spin (22 miles on it now!) and the problem of stumbling has gone away 75%. The RPMs still dip just a bit when pulling up to a stop sign, but the motor quickly settles at 750. It now never gets close to stalling like before.
So, I think I'm close to where I should be.

I took the Roadster out for a quick jaunt on this beautiful Feb day with it being 63 degrees outside. I wanted to capture my stalling motor problem on camera and it did not take long. Here is a video of it stalling twice withing the first mile. Then my camera fell over, lol. The motor stalls when I am in second gear and push in the clutch all the way when coming up to a stop sign. It also does it when they tranny is in neutral.
As a quick recap to my problem, I have a Forte 347 with Holley Sniper EFI. The motor stalls when I press in the clutch for any length of time. When fully warmed up, the motor stumbles badly, but does not stall when the clutch is pushed in. I talked to a guy at Forte's shop two weeks ago and he suggested adjusting the clutch adjuster rod out a little as the clutch may not be fully disengaging with the pedal fully depressed. I did this and verified that the clutch is fully disengaging by running the motor in 2nd gear while on jackstands and the rear tires came to a stop with the clutch pedal pressed in. I plan to call Forte again this week. I'm open to any ideas, as one of the reasons I wanted EFI to to avoid problems like this.
Also, why does it take so long to crank the motor over before it starts? It seems like it should catch right away.

**update**
I was reading through the Sniper trouble shooting flowchart and was looking at the options with the handheld touchscreen. I decided to try reprogramming the throttle body. I ran the install wizard and inputted in all the parameters. This was the first time that I did this. I assume that it was done at Forte's shop before the dyno time. I took it out for a spin and it ran perfectly. No more stumbling or stalling when the clutch is depressed when slowing down! I want to drive it a few more times before I claim victory, but this may be a step in the right direction.
I also waited until the fuel pump to run for a few seconds until it stopped on its own. It still takes several seconds of cranking before the motor starts. When hot, it starts right away.

Try letting the fuel pump run in key on position for a sec or two before engaging the starter. Will probably not be an issue on hot start. good luck,

Terry,
Just for a chance to put in my 2¢, most small block FORD's with any kind of non-stock cam will require a higher idle setting - example: my 5.0 has an "E 303" cam from FORD and idles at just shy of 950, factory EFI.
Just sayin' . . . maybe you should try with the idle set a touch higher and see if it stops stalling.

I originally had it set at about 900 by Rich when we did the first start. When I talked to Forte's guy a few weeks ago, he told me it should be at 750 so I bumped it down. Mine is an "E" cam as well.
The oil pressure is a good 30-40 psi at idle fulled warmed up. Idle sounds great too. The stalling problem happened both with the idle at 900 and 750. I really hope that this "reboot" of the Holley fixes it. I just ran the standard wizard setup and inputted all of the parameters. I have only driven it one time since and the problem did not happen at all. I'll put some more miles on it at Thurs or Fri when I'm back off of work.

I have been turning on the ignition, letting the fuel pump run until it stops (maybe 5 seconds?) before cranking the motor over. For the heck of it, I actually cycled the ignition twice and let the fuel pump run for about 10 seconds total and the motor still took a few seconds of cranking to start when cold. It starts instantly when hot.
IDK, maybe this is just the way it is?
Terry,
I've found that the Holley Sniper is extremely sensitive to exhaust leaks. Check for any leaks along the header to head mounting surface as well as the side pipe to header flange mount and the O2 sensor itself. When you "reboot" the Sniper, it reverts back to default values for the fuel map. Once it goes into "Learn" mode, any bad readings by the O2 sensor get magnified and introduced into the fuel map.
BTW, mine starts right up when cold after letting the fuel pump run for 5-10 seconds before cranking. It usually only takes 1-2 seconds of cranking to fire up.

Hmm. I have not heard any ticking noises, but I have not stuck my head under the hood with the engine idling for a while either. This is a very interesting idea. If there is a leak, hopefully there will be a nice black soot deposit to mark its location. I will check this out.

What are you getting for fuel pressure at the Sniper? What size fuel lines are you running for supply and return? Are you using the FFR supplied pickup? What fuel pump are you using? Sorry if you've already answered these questions.

I replaced the entire F5 EFI fuel system except for the fuel pump itself. I have 3/8" lines going both ways, 255 lph pump, and Pro-M hanger. The pressure on the gauge right at the inlet of the throttle body reads a solid 62 lbs.

Check, check, and check! Have you verified all cylinders are firing? I use an infrared thermometer, but a water bottle with a small hole in the top can be used as a quick check. Just squirt water on the header tubes and if it doesn't immediate boil off, you probably have a cold cylinder. I was seeing a lot of plug fouling initially and that can also make the Sniper go crazy.
Are all your vacuum ports plugged or connected? Any open vacuum port can also cause problems. Also check the seal between the TB and the intake. You can spray a little carb cleaner around the TB at the intake while the car is running to check if its sucking air in there.

The motor runs great except for this one issue. When I did the first start, BigBlocker did use my IR thermometer and all pipes were reading nearly the exact same temperature. I haven't done that since and can try again though. I have not pulled the plugs. How much run time did your motor need to before the plugs starting fouling? I have 24 miles on the odo.
I work Sun-Wed, so I'll get my head under the hood again on Thurs.

I've been in discussion with Jim at Forte's about my stalling problem. He suggested a few more things after thinking about the problem. I'll outline my process today.
First, I did all of the inspections that Dave suggested. All of my vacuum ports are capped off except for the one line running to the distributor. I looked at the header flanges (with a mirror for the underside), ball joints, O2 sensor and exhaust pipe connection. No soot deposits. I didn't think this would be the cause, but you never know and it was free to check :D It is smart to start with the simple things.
I also mentioned my long start up time and Jim watched my YouTube video. The gears were turning in his head. He was going to have me try something and gave me instructions. When my head was under the hood and about to start, he called me right back because a light bulb went off in his head. He had me remove the air cleaner and start it up. I had not made any adjustments and gave it a try. The motor started in 1/2 a second (stone cold) instead of the 5 seconds cranking!!! I took it for a very short spin through the neighborhood and it drove much better with just a slight dipping of the RPMs when I put the clutch in.
Alright, now we are onto something. This is Jim's hypothesis. The motor is run in Mass (sea level) on the dyno with no filter. I'm starting it at 2300 ft with a paper filter restricting it. The Sniper needs to learn the Idle Control Valve setting at my conditions and with the filter on.
So, we want this thing to run right with the filter. I went through the Idle/Throttle plate setting process again exactly as outlined in the Quickstart Guide with the filter on and it seems to work. I put a few miles on it and the RPMs did not dip at all when I put the clutch in. I'm going to drive it again after a few hours to see how it does with the motor cooled off. Also, I'm going to do it again tomorrow morning on a stone cold motor to see how it starts up and runs before it gets to operating temp.
I have a data log of before and after today's adjustment and sent them both to Jim to look at.
I'm hoping that this fixes it. I will be switching to a K&N filter in the future and will probably do the setup process again. The computer would probably have learned the conditions on its own, but would have taken much more time.

I have done 5 starts and short drives now and it idles perfectly when putting the clutch in and starts right away. Even when cold. I'm declaring victory! Jim at Forte really helped out.
Of course, I noticed fuel leaking from my Holley fuel filter area again on the garage floor. Just when I though I had all of the leaks fixed!!!!!!!!

I think so. I'm ready for a new problem to think about. I'm thinking about fitting my windshield for something to do. That way I can have it pre-fit before paint.

I know, it's driving me crazy. I pulled the Holley filter off before, completely took it apart and reassembled. It has 6 potential leak points. The outer caps that hold the element in (o ringed), the female threaded 3/8 openings, and the -6AN adapters. Trouble is, they are all so close together, I cannot determine exactly which one it is. This time, the leak is much slower than before. I bought a new fuel filter from Summit that has the -6AN fittings directly in the caps so no adapters required. It should be here this week. I'm tired of messing with it.
Update - I used the Summit filter and it works perfectly.

Watching Jeff work is fascinating. It is amazing how fast and precise his work is. He attacks the car with a 4 lb sledge, screw driver, a few wrenches, and a saw. A little adjustment here, add something to that there, bend this a little, fix Terry's screw up over on the front, adjust this, and remove that to make something else easier to install way down the road. It is kinda like a Tasmanian Devil running around the car. Don't get in the way and no one will be hurt!
What would take me a day, a lot of frustration, and look half ***, he does in minutes and it comes out perfect. All this and he is a really nice guy too :p
My car is in his very capable hands. Now I have to wait. I'm going to work on hooking up my cruise control and heater now that the body is back off. I'm going to go and walk some car dealerships on Sun to make my final decision on the colors. Some sort of red with charcoal stripes is the plan.

Here you go.
https://allhoseinc.net/
Jonathan is the owner and he usually works out of the shop location on the north side of town. He can do just about any color combo that you want. However, he will need to measure the run distances for your specific car and routing. Then he has to index the fittings to end up in the correct orientation with relationship to the natural bends in the line from being coiled up. I had no idea that so much went into flexible lines. Once all of the lines are built, he pressure tests every one of them before going out the door.

I forgot to mention, based on a recommendation by SJDave many months ago, I asked Miller to scoop out a section of the driver's door. A section about 1.5" deep and 1 foot long will be taken out of the top of the door. The he will strengthen the new opening and fill in. This was to fit my freakishly large body. I literally cannot get my left arm inside of the car otherwise and it would always have to be resting on top of the door. The alternative was that I would have to stop working out so much :p

Not [quite] red in the sense that red is red, but definitely not Burgandy by any means. ya gotta see it to understand. Computer screens don't do it justice but do a search for Mazda Soul Red Crystal.

I'm just doing a few things while the body is being worked on by Miller. I installed the Rostera cruise control. I mounded it under the 3/4" tube above the right side footbox towards the rear. If anyone thinks that it will interfere with the body when back on, let me know. It powers on. I won't be able to check operation until I can get it out on the road. If it works, I will write up a detailed wire by wire post for anyone that does this in the future. The F.A.S.T accel cable bracket recommended by Dave (Papa) made the throttle connection easy.

I was looking at your labels when you originally posted. That’s the only one I couldn’t read lol Even trying to zoom in on your photo bucket I couldn’t read it. I was wondering why you only had one seat heater switch labeled. Post a better picture and I’ll jump on it LOL!!!

LOL! That’s cool Terry :p You know with that label when you look at the switch markings it actually looks like little concussion waves like your passenger and the seat are leaving! (With a little imagination)
I feel you need to come up with a label for you, “driver bail” or something.

I've been working on getting the heater installed. Here is my setup:

These are the components I used:

Thermostat Housing with extra port

I already have two temperature sensors (one for Holley TB and one for dash gauge) occupying the ports in the intake manifold. So, I needed a third for the heater line. I decided to try the thermostat housing for the heater hose. I know that it won't flow hot coolant until the thermostat opens up, but I wanted to keep the temperature sensors in the intake manifold for the most accurate readings.
I topped off the coolant and let it get up to full operation temp. However, there is no extra heat coming out of the vents. I pull the heater knob out and check with my temp gun and the air is a constant 103 degrees regardless of the position. I had the motor idling for about 20 minutes and the gauge read just a tad over 180.
Hmm, I'm thinking that I maybe need to let it cool off, add more coolant, and try to see if there is air trapped in the lines? Or maybe someone sees something that I screwed up?

I'm just thinking out loud here, as I've not worked on a SBF/Windsor since about 1984...
If your heater hoses are tapped into the T-stat housing, and a port on the WP, wouldn't both of them be on the "pressure" side of the system?
Windsor guys chime in here...

Terry,
Your heater core is higher than your highest point on your engine . . . you have air trapped in it causing low flow of heated water.
Your routing is workable, you'll just will have to wait longer for heat with the supply line on that side of the T-stat.

I topped off the coolant and it took almost a quart after the first run since pulling everything apart. The heater blows about 110 degrees now which is warm, but not great. With the motor idling in my garage (in go cart stage again) the lower radiator line is still barely warm to the touch even when the motor is at 180 degrees and the fan is on. I'm thinking that it is not getting hot enough to fully open the thermostat when not under load or with the body on. I'm going to wait and see if it gets warmer when actually driving it, but that won't probably be for a bit. If it does not, I'll have to figure something else out.

I liked the idea of having a screen in front of the radiator. So I purchased the honeycomb mesh from Speedway Motors that I've seen others on here use. Cut to fit, made a frame, and painted. I used spacers to keep it from rubbing on the radiator. Now that I look at it, I'm wondering if there will be any fitment problems with the nose aluminum pieces when the body is back on.

I also took it out for a gocart ride today and got it nice and warmed up. The heater works fine on the road. The problem I'm having now is that my brass elbow in the water neck keeps coming loose after a few heat cycles. I think that the metal expansion for the two different materials may be different enough that it is working its way loose do to thermal cycling. I have a stainless steel fitting on the way to see if it works better. Hopefully, this will be the last time I have to mop up coolant off of my garage floor.

I did kind of the same thing, Terry. However, I discovered that the sides of the frame don't need to be there to hold the honeycomb in - the radiator fins are recessed so the side tanks do that - so, I just used the top and bottom channels. This allows for easy removal of the honeycomb for cleaning too. Just a thought for consideration if you have interference issues. Hope this helps.

I changed out the fitting to the T-stat housing to a straight barb with a 90 degree bend in the heater hose. I think it looks a bit cleaner this way. I tried to find a stainless steel hose barb in this size (3/8" NPT to 5/8" hose barb) but could only find brass again. I have it in there pretty dang tight, so I hope it will not loosen again like the last one. If it does, it is easy for me to snug it back up with minimal coolant loss. The elbow fitting required me removing the upper radiator hose to spin around.

Based on other people's suggestions on build threads who are way smarter than I am, I moved the throttle return springs to be inline with the throttle cable. Here is the the before and after:

The springs are kinda mangled from when I was first installing them in a very small hole way back. I have some new ones on the way just in case.

Also, I wanted to protect some lines that are directly above the headers. I don't know if this would ever be a problem, but I decided to put some heat reflective tape on a few areas.
The heater hoses and more importantly, the Sniper wires going to the battery are now wrapped up.

I worked on a few odds and ends again. First, I got my louvers all ready for mounting. I've read silicone, RTV, JB Weld, and HSRF as being used to adhere to the inside of the body? Is there a favorite method?
https://i413.photobucket.com/albums/pp213/tmartinlvnv/IMG_20200503_090625788.jpg (https://s413.photobucket.com/user/tmartinlvnv/media/IMG_20200503_090625788.jpg.html)
Next, I used the Vinegaroon method here to stain my leather door check straps. "Canyonblue" is also starting his build. Might as well do both sets of straps.
