I must admit that i am still figuring out how to effectively use search, so i apologize if this topic has been beaten to death.

I have seen a thread for a home made rivet nut tool, but I was interested to see what tool the community recommends. I have read that the supplied tool is not so hot.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations or links to rivet nut tools that you like.

I use real simple wrench driven tools like this one https://www.mcmaster.com/96349a203. The link is for size #10, which is what I use the most of. I also have the 1/4 inch and 5/16 inch sizes for heavier duty rivet nuts. Pretty hard to wear these out or break.

Not sure what you mean by "supplied tool." If you're referring to the Coupe kit, no rivet nut tool is supplied nor are rivet nuts called out in the instructions. We're kind of on our own with these.

Summit Racing has a tool for multiple size rivet nuts. https://www.summitracing.com/ga/parts/wmr-w2007/overview/?gclid=CjwKCAjwmZbpBRAGEiwADrmVXrrM8ub300dvkLsPccr Mm3I1dSLdTEn2wplhGpe8RhqUHR7UrzgyYRoCldcQAvD_BwE

Costs less and works pretty well. I have had rivet nuts slip/turn because they weren't tight enough. (then drilled out and replaced)

The ones Paul (edwardb) talked about works really well. You can add more "setting" pressure than the Summit tool.

I got the Tracklite one from Amazon and feel it is perfect. There is a rod that you push in or pull out which threads on and off the rivenut which saves time and makes it a very quick easy process. Pull the tube out and it threads on the rivnut, put the rivnut in the hole and pull the handles to set the rivnut. Once the rivnut is set, you push in the rod and it unthreads the rivnut for you and your done. I did 7 rivnuts in to top of each footbox and probably got all the rivnuts set in about 2 mins each. Super quick and easy. The rod that threads and unthreads the rivnuts is propriety to Tracklite I believe. It does many different sizes but I am guessing there are cheaper options. I have no experience with other rivnut tools though and this is the first time I have used them.

I have the wrench kind which work great. Only issue is that you have to buy a different one for each size you use. In a pinch, I went to Harbor Freight and bought their all in one rivet style hand tool and it worked really nicely. It has fittings for 4-5 sizes. Fittings are not all that high of quality, but if you’re not installing that many, should hold up fine.

This is the kit that I have which was purchased from Summit Racing, but I get the supplies from Jay-Cee Sales :

For larger sizes I have the Wrench Style Tool since more pressure is needed for 5/16" and 3/8" Rivet Nuts.

Happy Rivet Nutting!
