Heat Sleeve for the Shifter Cables

There has been a bit of discussion regarding the intense heat from the "Kooks" header actually melting the plastic (sylicone) wrap on the cables. I found a Speed shop that Caters to a lot of the NASCAR teams, and asked them what the best item is to use, to block the heat, and keep the cable covers from melting.

They gave me the same stuff that the Race teams are using to shield their lines. It was 1" diameter, so I slipped it over the cables, and then folded back over and secured it with aluminum tape.

I also went ahead and wrapped the SS Braided Coolant lines with a Heat Shield, and sealed them with aluminum tape.

This was done in order to further minimize tunnel heat.

We used similar stuff to protect the cables. One got a little bubbly but never damaged. It has the sleeve with the fabric high temp liner and the silver sheild. I think I got it from Summit. Anyway, since then no problems. HTH, Richard.

Looks good Stig. I like your coolant hose set up a LOT. I usually use this on my projects. Is made by DEI and holds up really good. I like the fact that it is black and less noticeable than the silver ones. They also have one that is opened in the middle and closed with Velcro after it is installed. It is also sold by Summit racing.

We sell a ton of the 1" sleeves for the clutch cables in the roadsters. There is also the pyro shield stuff from Earls/Aeroquip/ect. Its the orange fiberglass sleeve stuff. The only problem with it is that its not split down the side making it difficult to install after the fact

Yes, I would recommend the orange silicone sleeve as well. I have found nothing better, but it IS a bit pricey.

Thanks Crash. Jeff Collins picked up the Chassis and took it to his shop last week in order to fit the Body. It may be a little late to change them out now. I'll just have to try and keep them as far away from the exhaust as I can. Ron Richmond also has a panel that he used to shield his transmission from the Cross Pipe heat. I may be able to make something like that, to fit between the exhaust and the cable.

We'll see.

What you have there should be fine. I just added my two cents for future referrence by others. I think both products are fine, but the orange fiber lined "fire sheath" material is just the ultimate in my book. I have never seen it NOT work at insulating wires/cables/hoses in extreme conditions. :)
