View Full Version : Shorter brake hoses

I want to try some shorter flexible front brake lines on my build. The lines that came with the FFR Wilwood kit are nearly 18" long. The large loop when the wheels are turned stop to stop are too close to being pinched between the tire, wheel and panels. I have measured and want to run something in the 14" length.
I need help on a part number or thread/flare size of the ends. If you are not familiar with the supplied hose it has a female flare end on each end with a threaded coupling.
I see a 3 AN straight fitting on both ends. Is that the correct end?

You didn't post a pic but here is a thought that might help. Most FFRs have the brake line mounted at the frame pointing out toward the wheel. Do a little twisting to the parts you have and mount it so it is pointing down. You can see my psgr side here

Craig, You are correct. My solid line mounts have the line pointing out. While shopping on line for shorter brake lines, I noticed there are lines with 90* ends. Being not too expensive, I would rather buy the 90* ends than rework my hard lines.

I would think our two 20th Anniversary Roadsters came with the same exact parts. I routed the supplied lines per the attached pics. 5,000+ miles and no issues. They're at full droop here. But stay out of the way at all times. FWIW.

edwardb, thanks for taking the time to post your set up. I should be able to match your angles and hose routing. My lines do look longer than what you have. I will see if I can match yours without breaking the fitting in the caliper.

Too hard to measure the Roadster, sitting on the ground with the wheels on. But just measured the Coupe build, which has the exact suspension and brake setup and optional Wilwood brakes. Routing is also exactly the same as I pictured from the Roadster build. They are 18-inch hoses. 14 might be a little short IMO.

Even with the heat and humidity, I could not wait. I went to the barn and rotated the 45* fitting, they did not break, and got them pointing down. I had to break the lines to untwist the hoses and got a drop or two of fluid. Lines droop like yours and are still close but do not touch or bind. I did torque the hard line bracket on the frame to point the fitting toward the center of the wheel. Short story, all is good, just bleed front calipers. Thanks for getting it right and showing me how.
Things are looking good, got my new Speed Hut oil pressure sending unit, also.
If I was building again, I would position my hard line brackets like Craig's and turn the 45s like edwardb's
