I need to verify some info. I put a 92 GT replacement water pump on my new engine but thought I was going to run a power steering pump. Change of plans: there will only be an alternator and water pump. I think I have to change the water pump out to a pre-70 pump for correct clockwise rotation. Is that accurate? Thank you, WEK.

I have a old style standard rotation on mine and the alternator is on the right in a normal setup. I have seen some strange belt setups to make the pump work so it can be done. It may be easier to chnage out the pump than do some wacky stuff too get the belt to run the pump. No need to run a wacky routing or idler setup to save buying a pump. A new Ford pump was less that $50.00. I have seen it done on the other forum. I think the pump on mine is off a 84 mustang 5.0. WE had a time getting a gasket for it at the local NAPA after the one Ford Racing supplied with the pump developed a leak.

I was very careful installing pump to avoid leaks so I really don't want to change the pump out, at least, until I start and breakin the engine. While I was waiting for an answer, I did this as a workaround. I am having some other brackets powdercoated so I will add this to the batch. Thanks 3kcarbon for verifying what I thought. WEK.

I have only the alt and CCW water pump but my alt is on the driver side. I used the alt bracket kit from Breeze and got rid of the idler pulley and bracket.

Make sure it rotates like this on the back side...

It works best with a CCW timing cover too...

Now I'm really confused. If you run your alt on the driver sided, that means you have to run the belt between the crank and water pump pulley. Do you have any slippage on the water pump pulley? That was why I didn't think running the belt between the water pump and crank pullies with the alt on the right side would work. All of the pictures I see show about 35 or 40% belt contact with the water pump pulley. I may have misunderstood you. Could you illustrate?
Thx, WEK.

If you go to Page 56-57 of this online catalog, under Reverse Rotation Water Pump, kit #30120 is what would work...its pricey, but maybe just the photo of it will help you? The photo of the upper right of this page is what you are looking to do.

Skullandbones. I will make this very easy for you. if you want to run just the three pulleys, go to Advance auto or Similar and ask for a water pump for a 1984 Crown victoria non police version aluminum pump for a 302
Advance auto part number is 125-1700 Most stores can cross reference that number as well

Even after seeing the pic of the driver side setup, it looks like it would slip but if it works then that is a very attractive option. I believe my alt is an inch or so more inboard so it should work from the right side too if I run the belt between the water pump and crank pulleys. That would still let allow me to use only 3 pulleys. Thanks for that!
Also, you guys are fantastic! I started out scratching my head and now I have at least 3 options. That's the way I like it. So thanks, 3kcarbon, Jeff, JimmyZ, evvander (cool catalog), and Michael. I will keep these for future reference. WEK.

Excuse the dirty engine but you can see that there is good belt wrap on the water pump. No slippage even at 11 lbs. of boost.

OK!! I'm convinced. That's good so now I can use a shorter serpentine belt. Cool supercharger!
