Hi all,
I got my Mk4 kit with the power steering rack. I am running a Blueprint Ford 347. What power steering pump is compatible with the power steering rack? What is the best source?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

I'm not one to try to reinvent the wheel so every car I've built with PS has used an OEM Fox Mustang pump. All have performed flawlessly. Nothing sexy about them but they are compatible with the rack, reliable and inexpensive with a wide variety of choices for mounting brackets.

Jeff Kleiner is right!! There are other options out there...but in this case, simple and dependable are the greatest part of OEM!

The stock pump works fine. There is a mod to cut the spring down to reduce the boost if needed.
The filler does sit at a somewhat stupid angle with most bracket sets. This is only an issue on track. It can puke a little fluid on hard right hand turns and scare you with a puff of smoke. There is a mod to fix that also with some marine fuel filler hose.
BUT IT GOTTA SAY...........Those KRC pumps are kinda sexy!!!! Hang onto your wallet before you look it up.

Thanks for slapping me back to reality Rich. I completely forgot the mantra of some builders---"If it costs more it must be better" What was I thinking? ;)

Another option, but you have to figure out your own mounting is a 99 Explorer pump. It uses a remote reservoir.

Another option is to use the factory Fox body pump, but swap the plastic pump housing with one from an old Escort (I think mine is a '92) and then you can run an external reservoir. (I had to go that route due to the PS pump filler neck hitting the AC mounting bracket directly above it.) That allows you to use all the traditional PS pump brackets, but it does complicate the plumbing a little.
Instead of cutting the pump spring to reduce the boost, you can also run a Heidt's adjustable valve between the pump and the rack which allows for more discreet "tuning" of the PS and reduces the angst of cutting the spring and hoping you didn't cut too much. Of course then you will want to run -AN fittings and braided stainless hoses to make it look pretty...ask me how I know.

I don't know how much they cost individually, but Mike Forte included a KRC pump with my crate engine, and it has been flawless. It looks better than the stock Ford pump too.
