I would like to know what kind and type of insulation is being used on the interior of each foot box and how many square feet did you use?

I used two boxes of Dynamat (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00020CB2S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) to insulate the entire trunk & cockpit.

The adhesive is REALLY sticky. I recommend putting the Dynamat on the inside of the foot box panels before you permanently install them.

Reflectix double sided attic insulation. Did not keep track of amount. Very inexpensive at Home Depot.

Installed outer foot box sides after insulation & carpet was installed. Used 3M 90 spray adhesive.

I used TheroTec Cool Mat on the entire inside of my cockpit. It took five 3x5' rolls. I didn't do the trunk.

I am thinking about trying this stuff. It's called Aerogel. You have probably seen it demonstrated; a guy holds a small piece in his hand and then hits it with a blow torch. Anyone used it yet? How did it work?

I haven't heard of or seen it used, but at $16 a square foot it'll cost close to $1,000 to do a complete cockpit. Maybe used in a couple of strategic spots? The thickness may also cause problems depending on where you want to use it.

Its like filling a glass. Once it gets to the top its full. Most if not all of the currently used insulations will keep engine heat out if you seal all the leaks. 99% of the interior heat will then come from the sun.

What do ya'll think about the Summit Brand Heat & Sound Barrier?

Do you think it would be up to snuff or not?

TOTALLY agree to put the Dynamat on the inside of the foot box panels before installing them. I waited until after the panels were installed, and it was a real PITA!!

I like Second Skin Audio and use it on all my customers builds and mine. Not cheap ~$350 but well worth it and easy to apply. I use the Damplifer Pro and do apply it to trunk and all interior aluminum and also put a piece inside the doors to give them a much more solid feel and sound.

No experience myself. But, I remember a thread where someone said it got very gooey, almost melted, and made a real mess.

I used EZ-cool, which is a light weight metallic sided bubble material. Likely what Kevin used, with a different name and higher price.

I only have 2 summers on my car so far.. but.. they are South Texas summers!
Similar to BEAR...
I put in a layer of Stuff I got from Amazon. It was called EZ Cool Vehicle Insulation. I think it cost me about $35 for 10' of the stuff.
Amazon doesn't seem to have it any more.. but.. it was exactly like this stuff.
https://www.amazon.com/Car-Insulation-Deadener-Automotive-Lightweight/dp/B016QUS1YE
Used some 3m spray contact glue.
I ONLY put it on the firewall and Inside both foot-boxes.
I even put it on the bottom of the foot box, but it gets packed down hard under my loud-pedal foot.
Nothing added to the top of my trans tunnel.
That said.. I can detect no additional heat coming through the panels. Even before I added the carpet, I could put my hands on the surface of the stuff, and feel nothing after a long hard drive.
I could feel a small amount of heat through the aluminum on the trans tunnel.. but.. now that I have it carpeted.. I feel nothing at all.
I don't know it would have been a waste to put some on the trans tunnel too.. but.. I don't know it would have mattered either.

I just carpeted the cockpit and wear earplugs. Done!

You gotta work on your tightwadness Dave. I spent days cutting little scraps of that ThermoTec into little puzzle pieces and got it done with four rolls:p.

I used one called hushmat I saw recommended on here by one of the pro builders. When I researched it it seemed to have better heat resistance where most of the other similar products were more about just sound deadening.

I used 2 boxes (70 sq. Ft. total) of X-Mat from Eastwood. Excellent stuff, adheres well. I did my complete cockpit, firewall and trunk floor with the two boxes with only a few scraps left.

Another vote for ThermoTec Cool Mat. It's easy to use and seems to work pretty well. I think I used four rolls.
