Working on installing my Russ Thompson steering system today and noticed the FFR supplied pillow block would only slide onto the steering shaft about 5-6 inches. The end section of the steering shaft appears to have a taper. Anyone else experience this? Should I see about getting a replacement shaft or pillow block from FFR?

Emery cloth or sandpaper.

Put mine together 2 weeks ago, no problems with the shaft.

Probably a scratch or burr or ding in the OD. A quick dressing with a file followed by some polishing with emery cloth will help.
Also check the ID/OD with calipers.

I dressed mine with a belt sander, good to go.
